3rd times the charm....

My attempt yesterday I changed to a 6mm carbide endmill to do the 6 corner holes and the radius was just too big so it turned out more like a spline socket with very little engagement. Probably would have worked but I wasn't happy with it.

Today I used a centre drill on all the holes then a 1/8" drill bit for the corners. Then drilled out the centre with a .450"ish(I forget the fraction size) drill bit. And then skimmed the sides with the 6mm carbide end mill.

I took the endmill to the exact size(should have went a thou or two more but was nervous to oversize it) and then skimmed it to a perfect fit with a dremel stone. Fits the vise in all orientations perfectly.

Now just needs a handle

Drug this home last night with me, the stand I'm assuming used to be a toolbox with some drawers/supports removed. Was a flimsy piece of crap and too high. Handles would hit the shelves/cupboards no matter where I placed it so I actually got buyers remorse for a minute.

Then I woke up today and took it back off the stand(pain), flipped it upside down and chopped 4" off the legs, flipped the wood on the roller base. Ok much better

Took some 2x4's and built some braces to go back inside the unit. Then used the sheet metal I cut off to build some covers/skirts and ok now the buyers remorse is gone.

Getting back on track finally have my wrench for the mill vise complete. Fun project and learned quite a bit, with still lots to go

It's an amflo 270 coolant mister. Hook it up to air and shove the hose in your coolant(or just use air) and you can adjust both the airflow & coolant flow to mist the tool without the mess of flood cooling.

You can get a generic one on Amazon for very cheap, like $20 or something

And you can see my homemade "mag base" better here
Do you pressurize your coolant reservoir? I used a mister which just used the venturi effect with less than optimal results for control of the coolant. Recently went the route of many online tutorials and used an inline water filter container as a coolant tank which I pump 10-15 psi into now and i have incredibly fine control. I will post some pics when the system is complete. Hopefully this weekend. I have a lot to share and have been meaning to create an active projects thread like you have done.

I never have, to be honest I've only ever stuck the hose into a bottle of (I believe) rapid tap to make sure it worked.

99% of the time I'm using carbide inserts so I haven't put it to use yet. I do however like the thought of using it with just air to help from recutting chips etc

Post some pics of your setup!

I’ve enjoyed this thread @Jswain since i have the same mill.
Here’s pics of my mister / air nozzle - it’s cheap, simple, works really well and easy to adjust % of mist.
+ a pic of my MD45

It’s mounted on a magnetic base and can easily be relocated on the mill (or move to the band saw)

Easy to switch from using spray bottle to mister.

I've been running them in the nearest Imperial collet, or I have a 1/2 & 3/4" indexable end mills that I use as much as possible. All the AliExpress carbide endmills I've used this far have been the xuhan hrc55. Nothing to compare it to with other carbides but they seem very nice, cut well and last.

I do have 6,8,10,12& 19mm oz25 collets coming on the mail though as the mill came with an oz25 collet holder with no collets.

I'm running a 4" vevor vise, swivels in the cabinet in case someday I need it.

@CWret has a Gerardi like mine. But there are clones that are really reasonable considering what they are. @RobinHood out west just bought one on Ali for a reasonable price.

I cannot say enough good things about the design. It's low profile which buys you back some headroom, and is first rate at taming difficult to clamp items. I think it's the most under-rated vise out there.

They show up at auctions and on Kijiji quite often too.

Fantastic vise for the cost.
