just a gripe about can openers

I'm no nutritionist but I'm pretty sure there is absolutely no joy in yams.

+1 on that.

Quite frankly, it looks like he threw up on his plate........

I came up with my own diet based on what I saw causing the problem. No counting calories or portion size however the aim is losing weight so I keep portions moderate and tell myself its good to be hungry, but there are no hard portion rules.

I eliminated all types of food and drink that were my go tos and contributed too many calories. Basically what is left is meat, fish vegetables and fruit, no booze, no juice, no potatoes (because of what you put on them), nothing deep fried, almost no grains (puff rice cakes are ok, but no bread, pizza, rice, pasta, etc), no dairy (no cheese, cream sauces or butter), no handfuls nuts or peanuts (which are technically a legume) except in recipes, no deserts or sweets of any kind and so on. As such, the cob salad is diet food; it's on this diet as its meets the requirements. Of course I don't eat it three meals a day everyday. Most days are a piece of fruit for breakfast, salad and veggies and humus for lunch whatever we can concoct with the guildlies for dinner. Usually a protein and two veggies.

This is all combined with a running program and for me is working well, might not for the next guy.... just depends on where the calories are in your eating habits. Someone else might like having some of those things on the menu and restricting portion sizes, I'm better off with it being against the rules and not in the house.
I used the Lose It! app after seeing Clough42’s transformation.

Running isn’t my idea of fun, but I walk 1-1/2 hours a day; however, my Dr. wants me to add cardio & weights.

Jesus this is harsh, but you have to do what works for you

I cant cut cheese, but I cut back soft drinks which were my number one addiction, then cut back pasta, and cookies. I upped intake of heavy nuts and fruits to go with daily oatmeal breakfast as well as protein. I have to get more exercise and I'll lose more weight and repair my muscle tissues better. I had to add protein to my diet because I had injuries that were not healing over time.

so question for everyone...

when you write off something from your diet but someone else keeps bringing said item(s) into your home to seemingly taunt you, do you consider removing the items from your home or the person bringing the items into your home?

To each their own. Pepper, garlic powder and Hy's seasoning. Beef and pork.

On chicken, it is garlic and paprika, and if I'm in the mood, pepper.

heathen. God intended steak to have salt.

I agree. But Salt isn't a seasoning in my books. I do put both salt on my steak. Usually before cooking. Steak is one of the few foods I can cook on my own. Searing hot BBQ, sear both sides, then eat.

Yeah, but you're the guy who burns water aren't you? :D When a chef says "season it" he's primarily referring to salt (the majority of the time).

Exactly as Mcgyver says... seasoning means salt. I have about 7 or 8 different types of salt to match the food seasoning is so important

OK, I yield. Salt is seasoning. Go figure.

So wtf do you guys call that brown hp stuff?

I hate steak seasonings in general. I like my steak just the way God intended it. Rare and unseasoned. So I prolly wouldn't like HP Brown sauce either.
Never said (or even implied) I use either on steaks, just use on eggs, home fries, back bacon (would that be "Canadien Bacon" or "Canada Bacon?).

I do occasionally like grated horseradish, chimichurri, blue cheese or crabmeat – not a lot, just a little with some bites.

crap that people who don't make their own sauces put on dead bits of animals.

Best for steak imo is Chimichurri. I was in Argentina 20 years ago and fell in love with it - and they know their steaks! Fresh parsley, cilantro, oregano, garlic, lemon juice, shallots (or onion) salt (seasoning for Susquatch), chili peppers or chili oil (something to give a bit of heat but not too much) and olive oil - all into the blender.
