just a gripe about can openers

The problem with the side cuts is hat the can no longer has a safe edge for holding cold chisels and such.
The Starfrit opener I have leaves a dull edge on the can, not near as sharp as the edge of the lid on the older style openers.
Still hate it though.

"Little Beaver" works great. Cuts sideways so you can lift the lid off easily and without any sharp edges. My old man loves it more than the old ones.

Being frustrated with our old (but was expensive) "Pampered Chef" opener, I got one of these Starfrits the other day. Fantastic! Thanks for the recommendation. Don't know how long it will last, but for $10 or so it is so nice to not have to wrestle with it.

I find this type incredibly awkward to use.

Other than coconuts. But F$ck coconuts.

I got a chuckle out of the fact that its first time use was to open a can of coconut milk.

Just to get the appetite going ...... the coconut was for the dressing for my version of a Cob Salad (its friggin awesome lol) .... crispy bacon, chicken with herbs de provence, egg, spinach, avocado, romaine, cucumber, olives, artichoke hearts, cherry tomatoes and a mayo/coconut/garlic/caper/lemon and fresh oregano dressing. Weight loss never tasted so good!

That's my old man too. On top of that he has shaky hands at his age so doesn't have the dexterity to slip a fork under the lid to fish it out. Won't let nobody open any cans for him
If I am opening a can and don't want to fish out the lid when it falls in, I place a fridge magnet on the top with a decent handle so I can pull the lid out once it is removed or mostly removed.

OK, I spent 9 months late ‘21 - early ‘22 loosing 75 lbs.: unless one of those is all you ate one day that’s not diet food - bacon, eggs, chicken, avocado, olives and mayo add up fast!

Looks really good, would go with a nice Pinot Gricio.

I came up with my own diet based on what I saw causing the problem. No counting calories or portion size however the aim is losing weight so I keep portions moderate and tell myself its good to be hungry, but there are no hard portion rules.

I eliminated all types of food and drink that were my go tos and contributed too many calories. Basically what is left is meat, fish vegetables and fruit, no booze, no juice, no potatoes (because of what you put on them), nothing deep fried, almost no grains (puff rice cakes are ok, but no bread, pizza, rice, pasta, etc), no dairy (no cheese, cream sauces or butter), no handfuls nuts or peanuts (which are technically a legume) except in recipes, no deserts or sweets of any kind and so on. As such, the cob salad is diet food; it's on this diet as its meets the requirements. Of course I don't eat it three meals a day everyday. Most days are a piece of fruit for breakfast, salad and veggies and humus for lunch whatever we can concoct with the guildlies for dinner. Usually a protein and two veggies.

This is all combined with a running program and for me is working well, might not for the next guy.... just depends on where the calories are in your eating habits. Someone else might like having some of those things on the menu and restricting portion sizes, I'm better off with it being against the rules and not in the house.

That’s the joy of living by yourself a pack of bacon is a meal the next day is followed by a yam.

You eat way better than I would. Without the bride I'd burn water M-F, & splurge on McDonald's for the weekend.

I eat too much junk food. I'm not that overweight, but probably because I don't like to eat much before supper. This varys in the cases of day after day working hard (like some farmers do), or when I'm particularly sedate.

+1 on the congrats, Mike!
