  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

DavidR8's shop shenanigans

Turned out pretty alright.
Did 30% infill with solid layer every ten layers.

Silly question - do you have this in a .STP file? I’m curious if I could do it in aluminum using my CNC engraver. Probably take forever, but it’s not like I have to stand there turning handwheels. 0.003” doc and 5”/minute feed..

I output directly to .stl but I'm sure I could output to .stp file.
Let me look.
Seems I can't attach a .stp file :(
Send me a pm with your email and I'll send you the file.

I still want an excuse to cut gears. Just haven't made it through the other 42 projects...
I ticked one off the bucket list a couple years ago...

....all you need to do, is get a little bit "rammy" with your quick change gear box and you will have your "need"

I was kicking around F360, and found out that if you go to "Insert" > "Insert McMaster Carr Component", there are gobs of items (I just tried a couple) you can download directly into F360. Tried a hand wheel, and I'm thinking about printing it as a pattern to try casting one of my own.

Opens a whole new world!
Please do try this as I think this is a fantastic option!

Just had one of those <DUH> moments. I’ve been dealing with McM for ten years, ordered hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of material, and downloaded hundreds of PDF drawing files. Never dawned on me that I could download as STEP files and use to generate g-code. Now to try making some gears.

If you have 2" aluminum stock, then it will save a lot of printing time and plastic. Many European lathes have change gears in die cast alloy with a plastic gear bonded to the rim.
