Tool POS Tap Guide

If you are so Anal, what is that set of Punches doing in there?
You mean the round Tapping Guide Block from post #25 two weeks ago (short-term memory loss)? Here's a photo of it out of its storage tube:

However, you make a good point: I need to move my Big Gator V-Guides into that box, too – thanks!

And why didn't anyone ask about the soft-jaw pliers? I keep them in there so I can back off the T-Handle tap wrenches: even though I only hand tighten them, sometimes they are a bear to unloosen.

I guess once someone has replied to an earlier post it can no longer be edited, so here's the revised box layout:

OK, you win. THIS TIME......

Short term memory loss? I forget what that is. I don't bother segregating memory losses in any form whether short, long, or anything in between. My memory is SHEIT, and always was.

You actually have a plastic case for a tap guide block? Seriously? Why aren't all of those Gator Guides in cases too?

You know where this is going don't you....

Y
It (almost) pains me to do this (guess the eyes aren’t that far behind the memory):

Didn't pain you one iota! In fact, it's obvious that you actually enjoyed that!

But it's gross, just plain gross. I really don't wanna know any more about that box of yours or its contents. It's all just GROSS!

And it's not nice to make fun of blind old guys with poor memories either!

Yes this thread is over a year old - but it is so very relevant to my resent purchase - a new tapping accessories.
In the pic below is a Sata tap and die driver plus a tap holder socket set. I got these items after getting educated by this thread. Also (in the middle of this picture) is my new tapping tool - a spring loaded tap follower.

Really not sure why I didn’t get one of these tools long ago. Better late than never.
I guess I just needed a nudge.

@Chicken lights stopped in for a visit last week. We had a really interesting conversation about many different shop related tools, including a tap follower. After he left I looked up this thread and ordered the tap follower.
I tried it out today. In the below pic, the tap has a centring hole which makes life easy:

The Dormer tap (below) has no centre hole so a bit of improvising was needed.

Thanks Chicken lights for bringing this accessory back onto my radar.

If you EVER make it down my way, we will put this topic at the top of the list. I can yack in a post till the cows come home, but nothing beats layin an eyeball on the situmatation.

That follower is awesome. I have one just like it. But there are other things that help too. Like maybe losing that vice grip....... Or maybe donate it to your bride to use "as required".

Looks like the GearWrench set sold in the US by my ex-company ( Danaher ) . Both the set and tap follow makes life easy . :)

Like maybe losing that vice grip..
The proper size tap socket holder is easy to attach a wrench (instead of using vise grips) but it has a sloppy fit on the shaft of the tap and also a sloppy fit on the tap follower - so this set up is more rigid and keeps everything vertical. Only have to do a few turns to get it well started and then it was put in the bench vise and finished with the SATA.
losing that vice grip
Is that a vice to not lose the vise grip?

Ya, you need a visit. Lots of ways to get rid of the sloppiness.

Damn! You got me!

I'm usually pretty good with that! Either I'm slipping or autocorrect got me! I'd give either one 50/50 odds.
