Label maker - do you have a recommendation?

Easy for you to say....... But that's like asking me to tie my shoes. I can't bend over far enough to see anything like that. The handle lip hides them unless my head is near the floor.
I use a paint pen and hand-write the drawer contents. A bit of solvent and I can change what's in the drawer.

The basic problem is that I won't be able to see any drawer markings no matter how they are made.....

I don't know what I was thinking. I am destined to live out my life embracing the reality and true beauty of organized chaos. (Insert big sigh of relief here.)

Good thing my original goal is still intact - heat shrink cable labels!

Something like these. I know there options out there but finding the correct one to fit is the issue!

That looks like something you’d see on a retail store shelf…..might be something out there that can be had through those supplier channels.

EDIT: There’s another way for you @Susquatch to “skin the cat”. Grab some utility grade aluminum sheet and make up some small brackets to mount the label on (as usual, using our tools to make more tools & accessories…..).

Bend the bracket so there’s a face that can be stuck to the vertical face of the drawer, below the handle. Use VHB tape. Form the next leg at 90 degrees and long enough to come out to about flush with the bottom of the drawer pull then bend the next leg down at about 45 degrees from horizontal and put the label on it. Now your label is visible from standing up. Make the bracket as big as you need for the print size you need.

Of course you could ask one of your friends to 3D print you a mit full of them……I’ll take a few as royalty for the Idea (Unless someone makes a killing on it then I want a cut, LOL!)

Well, this thread has led me to a relevation! My Casio “Label It” can print on shrink tube!**. Wooo-hoo!

**Have a look at the fine print on your shrink label. The Casio tape is said to be print on shrink sleeve but they say it does NOT have the insulation properties (voltage breakdown resistance etc.) of real electrical grade shrink sleeve. Said differently, it’s probably about as good as Scotch tape! Fine for labeling so perfect for most of what I want it for.

Some of the printable shrink sleeve material used with (some of) the Brother(s) has proper insulation properties, I’ve used it at work. Just check the fine print to be sure which you have.

Awesome, I have a machine that will print on “shrink sleeve”!

Sounds like a great way to shave my legs everytime I walk past.

Truth is that I know exactly what's in all my drawers. I just got carried away. It's the old hammer thing. I got a labeller for shrink wrap that also makes labels, so I gotta make labels. No reason to fix what isn't broken. Organized chaos and me are comfy old friends.

If only you could 3d print a little wedge shape standoff that would mount under the drawer pull to the drawer face with a spot for a label mounted at say 45* or something easily readable from the top.......

There you go!

Now I gotta spend 3k on a 3D printer to make label stands for my 100 dollar label maker's 1$ labels......

It's actually a great idea Dan. Solves the ankle shavers problem too.

But I'm over the drawer labelling idea.

Too bad too. I printed some white on black labels today and they really are beautiful.

Another solution to the tool chest handle issue is.........new tool boxes with smooth top handles that will accept labels. Sell your old boxes at a reduced rate to some needy tool hoarder and go wild shopping for appropriate handled tool boxes. What could be easier, and a tax deduction.

I missed that note. It's not important to me. I'd NEVER use the shrink wrap labels for insulation. Only for identification purposes adjacent to a termination. To be honest, using them as insulation at a termination or a splice never even occurred to me!

But I can certainly see some guys doing it! So your warning is most appropriate!

So what's the verdict?
Is the Rhyno 5200 or the P710 going back?
Mail strike may be over soon and one of them will get the boot - time to choose!

It appears the PT can do 1" labels compared to 3/4" for the Rhyno - can they both do 2 lines of print?

Yes it does. And yes they do. When you change the font size, they will both automatically get more lines on the label.

The PT does font point size and different fonts. The Rhino only does 7 sizes from XXS to BIG. Also, the PT prints MUCH BETTER small fonts. The Rhino almost becomes unreadable with XXS and XS.

Lots and lots of reasons to choose the PT. Its my hands down favorite right now. But it has no keyboard so if you really need that, the Rhino wins.

Just waiting on heat shrink labels to test the PT. But I'm almost certain it will work and then the Rhino goes back.

I'll post a white on black label later today. Wait till you see that! VERY CLASSY!

I believe that I read somewhere that the BT has a higher resolution (pixels or whatever) than the Rhyno (2400 vs1200 are the numbers coming from the back corner of my memory bank, yea that's dangerous, but I couldn't find specs confirming this)

I believe you are right. I saw that someplace too. But I don't need to see that again. I can plainly see the difference with my own good eye!
