Label maker - do you have a recommendation?

I'm just curious if you get a label maker will your stuff have labels on it or will there just be a stack of labels piled up on a horizontal surface ?
:p

That there is funny! I laughed right out loud!

1. None of my stuff will ever get labeled.

2. The labeller is for drawers, boxes, bins, pails, chemicals, and shelves.

Not likely to be a pile of labels anywhere. If it does go that way though, the labeller will get beat to death by a sledge hammer.

The NIIMBOT arrived a few minutes ago.
Dead easy to use iOS app.
Best part?
I can arrange and size the text on the label so labelling hardware containers will use half the number of labels.

The 4200 has most of the features of the Rhino 5200 including shrink-tape capability and is about $120 on Amazon and just $100 at Stables (both offer free shipping). These are base units without a case or extra tapes.

So, I scooped a Rhino 5200 for 120 on Amazon's Black Friday sale.

I really wanted a smaller Brother P-Touch that uses an app on your phone instead of a bulky keypad on the printer, but I couldn't convince myself that any of them would print on shrink tube unless you got one of the bigger units like the Rhinos, but were more costly.

Shrink tubing is the big eye opener feature for me.

If I don't like it, I can return it.

Does anyone with a Rhino have any label recommendations? I don't want to spend 500 more on a collection of labels that would need to be labelled!

Here is one that really struck my fancy for labelling tool drawers and containers. With a white border, it's classy enough to compensate for my messes......

It's available to 1" which might accommodate 4 lines of text.

WOW - a good sloop at $120 for a Rhino 5200!

I was about to get the 4200 from Staples at $100 BUT AT $120 I’ll upgrade to the 5200. Can you send / post a link for that deal?

I believe you can pair your new 5200 to your smart phone - why does the size matter that much?
None of them are so big to require your JD to lift and lug.

PS - I didn’t think the 4200 or 5200 could handle 1” tape. I thought max was 3/4”??

Holy Crap! Two brainfarts in one post.......

Paid 160 for the 5200 and yes, it's 3/4 tape not 1 inch.

What's worse is that I have some 1" tape coming that is gunna have to go back.

Going to bed now.

After a really good night's sleep, I feel a wee bit better. I never did have a good memory for numbers, and these are numbers.

But still, this seems like a new low to me. Wife says I've been getting a lot worse just lately than ever before. Not good.

Nice cartoon @140mower.

You are right, it shouldn't really matter. Will know more in the next week or so. Planning to find some 3/4" labels today.

To be honest, I'm not sure 3/4" is gunna cut the muster for my old eyes. In my mind's eye, I can see and read 2 or 3 lines of txt on 1", but only one line on 3/4 tape. If so, it will prolly go back.

My 5200 arrived.

Warning - it didn't come with a 9V 2A power supply. Gotta pay more for that or use 6 AA Batteries. I installed some batteries. They were showing signs of low batteries after only a half dozen labels. So I think you need the power adapter.

There is no auto label cutter. It's a manual process only.

It's really easy to use in basic form. The first label isn't centered but subsequent ones are.

It's a very basic font. The size can be changed through 7 levels. The XXS AND XS fonts had poor resolution and were hard to read. Small and larger were OK but not as crisp as I would have liked.

As expected, the number of lines of text you can put on a label depends on the size of the label and the size of the font.

If there are different fonts, I couldn't find them.

I bought some white on black tape too, but I'm gunna use this first.

My biggest disappointment is the lack of graphics on the labels available from the keyboard and the total inability to connect the printer to my phone.

I also discovered that my son has a Brother P-Touch PT-P710BT. He paid 120 on Amazon. So I tried it while I was there.

I don't have any photos, but I have some observations. It has no keyboard but it was easy to pair it to my phone. It can use bigger 1" labels. I couldn't find anything that says it can handle shrink labels - so that might be a show stopper for me.

What I can say for sure is that the printing is clearly better. It also prints borders and graphics.

And it comes with a built-in (replaceable) rechargeable battery. No power adapter required - just a standard micro USB charger cable and walwart.

Since Amazon has free returns, I have ordered a p-touch as well as some shrink wrap labels. If it doesn't work, it goes back. If it does work, then the Rhino and the labels I bought for it go back.

It all depends on whether or not the Brother will print heat shrink labels. Other than that one critical feature, which is still TBD, I like the Brother much better.

My Brother does the heat shrink tubes, as that was one reason I bought it. Here is a sample I just printed to show. I have larger tubes on order and maybe the font can be larger as well? You still have the irritation of 1” wasted at the start, but string a few together to reduce the wastage and cut with scissors.

Great. I have not got one YET - but looking fwd to your Brother/5200 shoot-out

Shoot out is all but over. Brother prints better labels. The last shot is shrink labels.

My Brother does the heat shrink tubes, as that was one reason I bought it.

I hope you are right, but I couldn't find anything to show that the smaller PT-P710BT Labeller will print heat shrink labels. But after looking at how everything works, I can't see why not. That's why I decided to order the printer and some heat shrink labels to try it.

Yes, that was an issue I noticed on my son's printer. If it works with heat shrink, I don't mind having to use a pair of scissors. Maybe l'll feel differently about box and drawer labels though.

The 5200 has a manual slicer. It just works.

I think you are good.

That's awesome! Thank you!

It's really hard to imagine that it wouldn't work. The two layers for flat tube are the same total thickness as regular with a backing. I'd think the biggest issue would be heat bleed through. So what! I'm not making anything for the market. Even if I did, I can't imagine anyone buying my stuff looking at the wires going "Nope, the wires have beautiful labels on them but half of each label has inside out letters on them. Not interested!"

I did some label planning this morning. Looks like I'm gunna stay in the organized chaos category for quite a while yet.

The top drawers are all doable, but as they get closer to the ground the handle blocks the drawer face. I'm gunna need an upside down periscope just to see what the label says! Prolly easier to just open the damn drawer.

Wondering if they sell drawer handle label clips?

Might be further ahead with my index system.

Stick them on the flat part

Something like these. I know there options out there but finding the correct one to fit is the issue!
