I tried to touch base with the seller 2 hrs ago, so far no response and my message has gone unread. The ad is still up. I guess they must be loading up the purchasers trailer or whatever

Snow wasn't as bad last night as feared. At most, we got 4" or so here. But the 401 was a mess with lots of cars and trucks in the ditch. Apparently a semi even jumped the ditch and ended up out in a farmers field without jack-knifing. I bet that drivers eyes are welded open!

Anyways, it's good that you were not on the highway with a trailer during all that.

More snow expected today.

I can now confirm this was sold tonight to the local buyer.

oh well
Don't feel too bad. I've lost out on machines in the Windsor area as well and I'm even a little closer than you in Hamilton. Local buyers are bound to beat us to it when we are so far away in the GTA. I would have loved to have got that mill too but was too late to get in on the party and anyway I don't want to be driving to Windsor in the winter weather. There are bound to be other nice deals and probably closer, just have to keep your eyes peeled and your cash ready!

The problem is, within the GTA the prices are always high, often stupidly high. When ads pop up outside of GTA dealers in Cambridge, Hamilton, and surrounding cities swoop in on the deals then sell them in GTA for triple the cost.

I barely look at Toronto area ads, only ontario as a whole

It just sucks more because I let Bob know immediately after the ad was posted that we wanted it. We've been seriously looking for a 9x42 or thereabouts knee mill for over a year

meanwhile in the land of kijiji sellers there is a dealer Greg with a slew of knee mills in the size I want who just doesn't even reply to inquiries.... ask me why I hate dealers...

A shop I worked at once upon a time in Newmarket closed it's doors last year and had an auction. They had the same First mills (only newer) with Heidenhain dro's and imperial r8 collet sets go for around $1000.00 each. To me they seem to come up fairly regularly and 575v are always lower priced. This one looks to have been painted, but the older ones were green. Patience will bring success!

interesting... no sooner did I finish posting this than I got a series of quotes on the mills I inquired about

Here is what we typically find... well not actually, this one is cleaner by far than the typical dealer offering and less rusty.

This process is why my next Mill will probably be from one of the forum members (known entity), or new. I'm all for deals and challenges, but it becomes tiring after a while.... Too many weirdo's and games out there.

This is exactly why I am researching taiwanese exporters. The main reason was to get new small knee mill. Then it becomes more appealing to pick up many of the items we've wanted but didn't want to pay a middle man for. Or rather we didn't want to reward busybee for sucking.
