First Milling Machine, Windsor ON, $2200

It is a typical residential garage... and I dont yet know what trailer we would have access to.

In an ideal world I'd want roll off trailer into garage... with a controlled descent from a winch holding the mill back

I thought both your brother's and your shop were in the basement?

My very first mill was 1600lbs and I towed it in my regular trailer from Vancouver to Calgary. I offloaded it, 12" off the ground from the trailer to the lane, by myself.

I used patience, 2X8 timbers, a pry bar, and once on the plywood on the earth, rollers to move it into my garage. And my back lane is at a 7 degree slope. (it took 5 hours because this was my first machine move and I was extra careful)

Your best hint is that friction is your friend, and use it as much as you can.

My brother's metal shop is in garage, and "his" wood shop is in his below grade basement. but it is all my woodworking equipment in there. There is no way to get a lathe down the basement winder stairs without damaging something and we wanted the roll in roll out ability.

My shop at home is also in basement but it is at grade, so almost roll in ability.

If this mill was in TO this would be so easy peasy

thru kicking horse pass? I hope your town vehicle was a good one.

Or rent 4 sections of scaffolding (8 frames), from rental center, pickup with uhaul trailer, goto home depot, get about 10, 10' 2x10's, or a bunch of 6x6's , go home, unload that stuff, go get mill, go home, build temp beams by ratchet strapping 2x10's together, set up 2 sections of scaffolding on each side of uhaul (will be 10' tall), put beams accross, hold everything together with straps and ropes, lift mill, bring scaffolding and lumber back to store.

This may be a moot point... Bob says the mill is not yet sold as of this moment but someone is coming to see it. Okay which of you jokers is tryin to rain on my parade?

I'm prepared to purchase this sight unseen at this point, pay by etransfer

Maybe I have rose coloured glasses, but I don't think anyone here would do that. Just don't get iffy about it.....

Ya, I'm thinking this is a no brainer too.

Besides, as my dad used to say... "A decision is what you have to make when you don't have enough facts to make the answer obvious. Sometimes you just have to make a decision and then live with it."

As I said earlier - let me know how I can help.

It is now 2 pm. It looks like the boat likely sailed on this one...

The seller was going to contact me if the other interested party did not show and make an offer on the mill. It is a place of business so they should have already done so.

To offload easily just use a rental bridge crane. About 150 CAD later you have a method to unload / load quickly. I moved all of my machines that way - it was super easy.

Ive never seen one for rent around here, but they should.

So, I gather the fat lady has finished singing...... Too bad she finished on a sour note. That First belonged in a member's hands.

Might be a blessing. Windsor has been getting hammered since noon or so. Started here around 3. Turned the yard light on just now to have another look...... Woah!

I have been afraid to contact the seller to check but I will now, and I am 95% certain that the Mill will have been sold.
