  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

DavidR8's shop shenanigans

Belt grinder wheels arrived!
Super impressed.
Bottom drive wheel is 4", top is 3"
Bought from Nexus Grinders in Raymond AB.
Drive wheel was $40, idler was $37. I can't buy the material for that money :(
Going to be paired up with a 1hp Baldor motor that I scored for $60.

Only took about 20 mins to cut through the track. I was expecting it to take longer.

Mini anvil in the making.

I don't really use an anvil for much more than something heavy to beat something on. So my anvil is just a cutoff piece of track and nothing special. I hope SWMBO never finds it. So I hide it under a big work bench loaded with "stuff".

Are you planning to do more than that? If so, I'll be most interested in following along.

I may put a bit of a horn on it and flatten the top. It’s definitely only destined be a solid surface used to flatten stubborn metal. I don’t see any smithing in my future.

I think we are on the same page. I'd appreciate it if you posted some photos when you are done. If it's easy to do I might do the same. Right now I don't even know what's better than a plain old section.

Will do!

Put up a white board in the shop this afternoon.

Ha ha I am telling myself every time I'm working on a project at.

I get mad and frustrated at my 12 year old boy for NEVER putting things away and having a mess about him, and then I remind myself "how could he be any different with me as his his old man?" .

However I just about never leave the shop in a mess at the end of the day, I don't sleep well if I do.
