Yes, lacquer thinner. Though, sometimes liquor with a bit of thinner helps. Might not remove paint, but it could make you feel better about not getting paint off.
And yes, my spelling still sucks, take that A.I. . Dam thing , it had my spelling socks and didn't like me changing it back , 3 times.
. Not sure what's the bad part, the artificial, or the intelligent part.

I'm somewhat surprised you don't have any bearing plate pullers? That's essentially what you made

Yes, I do. In fact I have a good selection of purchased pullers including several bearing pullers. None fit this job. My puller tool selection keeps growing as I add more custom pullers. I make more custom pullers and collets than any other tool I make.

The locking screws should have brass buttons under them, hopefully still there and they fall out. Just be careful with compressed air or they will disappear.

Forgot to mention that sure enough one was missing. The big one. That's also the one for the slide that was most stuck.

Easy enough to make one on the lathe out of brass. It seems to be an ordinary pin with a flat ground on one end with the same slope as the dovetail.

I prolly would have lost the other one too if you had not warned me. It fell right out when I got the dovetail out. But I was watching for it.

Hmmmm. No time to order paint remover. I have today and tomorrow to work on this as much as I want. The wife is driving to St. Catherine's with a flock of other girls for a baby shower.
How in hell does your wife leaving for the day affect your ability to have shop time, or order something?

I had a stroke last year and my geriatrics nurse (SWMBO) has used that as an excuse to keep me on a very short leash.

She will not let me be alone in my shop for more than a few minutes. It didn't help much when she caught me halfway through moving my 165 pound optical divider with my bare hands. She still lectures me about that. She will come out there and just babysit with me, but that turns into a fight cuz she hyper ventilates just looking around and can't help but clean up my messes. I hate that cuz I can never find anything afterward.

So, when she goes away the big furry guy gets to do whatever he wants for as long as he wants to do it.

I think today I am going to drain and flush my field sprayer while it is still relatively cool outside, then make a brass stop to replace the one the college lost, and then work on cleaning up the collet holder section.

Still no paint remover. :(

God I hate that paint job. Can't begin to imagine why/how that happened. It was done years ago and long before they decided to sell it. In some ways, it might be a blessing though. That paint job is clearly the reason it hasn't been used in recent years. Using it with that thick paint all over everything would have been impossible.

Anybody know what a Norton 4X2X.781 38A120-K8VBE wheel should look like in terms of sharp or rounded corners and edges?

manual shows correct dressing of the grinding face. A small step toward outside of rim. Sharp edges. Goal is to minimize surface area so the tool blank doesn't over heat. The swing arm with diamond tip does a good job. Dust capture of course.

Didn't even look. I figured every stone would be different. Thanks for that Gerrit!

You can see the effect here, needs dressing again but ok for now.

So put in a wifi cam so she can check in on you from the house maybe.
