Got some shop time today and actually felt like working on the Belt grinder. There are still a couple small details to the main frame that needed sorting out that keep me from finishing it and painting it. The problem is that it works (pretty good I might add), so I've really not wanted to tear it down to do them. A problem plaguing most of my projects when they get to the usable stage....
One of the issues was a gas shock to help rotation of the frame from vertical to horizontal. It's not balanced, so laying it down, and getting it back up again is a chore due to the motors weight. I figured out a solution a few months ago, ordered the shock, and finally had enough wind in my sails today to do something about it...The first iteration I made was really nice. I took time to make it look good, nice lines, took lots of pics to document making it, etc. It didn't work, and was too short (but I followed the cad model....F in designer.....). Not salvageable Into the scrap bin it went. The 2nd one was hammered out quick, and figured out on the fly. Works great. Looks like shit, but at this point I don't care....I'm going to cut it off and clean it up a bit now that I know it works.

The other problem is that is doesn't quite work with the weight of motor (works great without
😀 ). It's a 33lb spring, so I ordered a 55, and 65 which will be here tomorrow. I'm pretty sure one will work, but If neither work, I might have to scratch some more hair off my head......
The other thing I need to make is a more permanent riser for the main frame. The two vertical tubes holding it up are "temporary" with only a couple good tacks holding them on. I wanted to finish designing the other attachments for it before really committing to something there, and now that those are done I have a clearer path on what to do there. Once
that's done I can paint, and start a build thread/video......I hope....It's only been a year....
