Tool Vevor mag drill 1100w

Tool
What's this fine print about it being $237 after 'registering'?

And I see there are different versions, e.g. one with a bunch of annular cutters 850rpm and 1450W...? odd they have different motor models. Is 850 rpm too fast? I can see drilling 6mm through 25mm diameter holes myself. Does anyone have the variable speed version? Is it needed in practice for a wide range of bit sizes? e.g. 1/4 through 1.5".

I'm full of questions... @DavidR8 or anyone else - do other brand annular cutters fit? some reviews were complaining about this, or that the needed adapter didn't ship with their drill.

Another reviewer notes the drill he got does not have a mechanism like a drill press to hold the chuck in the up position. Instead the handle is used to winch the head up from the default down position. Is that normal mag drill behaviour?

this one is variable speed, has reverse, and a set of cutters. $331 after 'registering'... tempting....

I suspect but cannot confirm that other brand annular cutters fit. I will say that the set I bought with the drill were insanely sharp and well finished.
I watched a bunch of reviews before I settled on this model. Chose it for the power and the variable speed. I wouldn't buy one without variable speed.
Worked like a hot damn. One of my best tool purchases.

I have this one and it is an awesome drill.
Agreed - that is an awesome drill. - but for me it is too heavy (at over 42pounds). Lots of power and variable speed are great, but just too heavy for my needs/old age ability.

I did a lot of comparison shopping for mag drills, starting a few months ago (same time as I started a big upgrade and rebuild of my fabrication/welding bench).
I really like this one (photo screen shot):
IMG_5261.png
It is just over 24 pounds- so much more manageable size for me. It was on sale (awhile ago and at $30 less) but no variable speed was a road block so I didn’t bit. You have to watch Amazon’s pricing. It can change up or down. Something (that you are considering) on your shopping cart could get a price change or become unavailable.

Right now Amazon has a great deal (IMO an AWESOME deal) on this model:
$232, 24 pounds, 1400 watts, variable speed, and includes a drill chuck (which is normally an extra).

I would be buying this if I didn’t already have a mag drill on order. But the one I have on order is a bit of a crap shoot (I’ll believe it when I see it and test it out). Looks like a great drill & the price is too cheap to believe, but it is a no-name knock off of a Vevor. Maybe it comes from the same Chinese factory as the Vevor? It is a bit smaller @ 20 pounds and 1200watts but it has variable speed and they include a drill chuck. Best part is I ordered it through (from) Amazon so I can rely on their very good return policy. I ordered it 2 weeks ago and it doesn’t arrive for another 4 weeks but at $148 the slow delivery is acceptable. I had previously decided not to say anything on the forum about this mag drill purchase until I got it in my hands (because it might turn our to be a crappie bad experience) but this thread persuaded me to fess up.
We all love pictures, so here are some pics of the drill i hopefully will be receiving as a late Christmas gift to myself.

PS1- the mag drill i have on order is now listed as unavailable.
PS2- a day after i ordered it, the price was reduced by $7. I could have cancelled my first order and reorder it - but that might have upset set the apple cart.

🙂

Your price is 232. Mine just now is 289. Those crooks have me targeted. I should be getting better deals than others, but they are deliberately milking me.

I'm gunna try checking for price through a VPN and see what is up.

Edit - through a VPN it is 251.

Maybe this link helps

wrong link- think this is correct

i can answer some of @Janger 's more general question

there are two common annular cutter shanks, both are 3/4 diameter, one is weld on, the other is universal, weld on has 2 flat's, and universal has 1 flat and 3 grooves, universal works in all the common chucks, weld on doesn't work in the whatever weird chuck that requires the 3 grooves, ive never actually come across one, weld on is what the vevor drill uses, and weld on shank bits are the most common...no problem there

mag do not automatically return to the top, crank up, crank down, depending on how tight the grub screws are on the rack the motor weight will often cause them to return to the down position

800rpm is fast for an annular cutter, most mag drills in that size range run around 400-500 rpm, the big monster mag drills run even slower (as they are intended to be used with larger annular cutters). Some name brand drills have gear boxes that run the drill in the 700rpm range, but this is for the use of twist drills with a chuck adapter.

A note if you intend to use twist drills in an adapter with a mag drill, the chuck adapter takes up lots of vertical space (and twist drills are quite long relatively), you want to look real close to make sure you can move the head up on the rack, if you only have the vertical throw of the rack it will limit what you can use in the chuck drastically. ideally you can move the head up on the rack several inches to make up for the extra length of the adapter and twist drill

Another good reason to delete your accounts from vendors who do that. Elbows up. Life will be a tad less convenient, perhaps a bit more expensive (or maybe not as their targeting algorithms drive up prices?), and you get to send your money to better people. I mostly haven't missed them and it's almost been a year. Aliexpress, or vevor, PA or can tire, or a small canadian vendor have nearly everything. Do it, you'll feel better.

This vevor drill, with variable speed & reverse, including drill bits and all accessories lists a weight of 12.5kg. I wonder @CWret if that other model with so much more weight is the box, all the drill bits, etc, and this one below is not including the other parts & box?. These drills all look very similar - I find it surprising the mass would be so different. Maybe these weight values are wildly inaccurate. @DavidR8 how tall is yours and what does it weigh?

Model MDP-50 - Net Weight (Including All Accessories)27.6 lb / 12.5 kg

I'll measure its height tomorrow @Janger. I can tell you now that it's not light. But I did manage to place it accurately on a vertical surface when I mounted my Dake arbor press to the wall.

I have this one and it is an awesome drill.
I have it and Iove it.
No such a thing as a light mag drill, if it's worth having. And I would never have another one without the variable speed.
If you are turning a 1.5" or 2" bit you will kill your bit without it.
Also I not that going to Vevor directly to buy their stuff, always gets you a better price than Amazon

Thanks John - i wonder about that too. I’ll be quite interested to hear from @DavidR8 when he gets a chance to weigh his.
My mag drill was cheaper from Vevor than Amazon for the same drill.
I’ve bought Vevor products both from Vevor and also the same item from Amazon. In my experience, Vevor is often cheaper but not always. If the prices are close, then I prefer Amazon because of their far superior return policy.

PS - another benefit of buying from Vevor is that they keep track of you purchasing history and often give a small discount to repeat customers.

I captured these similar pictures and there are there are differences in size.

Left is MDP-50, 1450W, 360mm tall, weight: 12.5kg, says it taps.
Right is MD-50?, 1550W, 19kg, says no tapping? it has reverse, why not?
@DavidR8 I believe has the MD-50. Dave have you tapped with it?

I'm leaning towards the smaller one.

Well I ordered the smaller mag drill, variable, reversing with 6 cutters.

Re the fine print of lower price after 'registering', yes make an account with them and your prices in the cart are lower. I imagine they will send ads via email.

Anybody have one of Vevor's battery brad/stapler nail guns? $123? with battery and charger.
