Here's what i bought: Single speed, non-reversible mag drill that has 12 annular cutters. It has more than 8" max height, with almost 6" of travel - comperable to most floor model drill presses. in *my* case, I have other machines for tapping, and cutting at other speeds. For very large taps (5/8 NC) I can still use the drill to tap, but would have to retract manually. For smaller taps, I have a hand drill with a tapping head functionality.

I'm pretty happy with the purchase overall... I think Janger's purchase is more versatile over all.... I might add a reversing switch later if I think I need it

‘Today’s mag drill project. I want to add a plywood base on top of a wheeled base made of 1” square tube. Two bolts. Seems like a good mag drill project. The metal shoe uses the is attached by the magnet and I clamped the shoe to the base and plywood. The revised base will hold my chop saw stand and saw.

I suspect but cannot confirm that other brand annular cutters fit. I will say that the set I bought with the drill were insanely sharp and well finished.
I watched a bunch of reviews before I settled on this model. Chose it for the power and the variable speed. I wouldn't buy one without variable speed.
Worked like a hot damn. One of my best tool purchases.

I've used it to drill holes in parts of the mill when I was doing the CNC conversion. I used it to drill the holes to hang the arbor press on the wall. I also plan to use it to drill holes in my welding table.

A mag drill makes a great portable drill press. My welding/fab table top is a thick plate of aluminum, so the mag drill won’t attach to it. I attach the mag drill to a 6x12x1/2” piece of flat bar and then clamp the work piece to the flat bar (or clamp the flat bar to the work bench). Very similar to what Janger did in post 82 above.
In pics below, I drilled a hole in the dust cover of my Vevor bit sharpener for a vacuum attachment. The mag drill is magnetically attached to the flat bar (blue in the pic) and the dust cover is clamped to the flat bar.


Before getting a mag drill, I’d modified a drill press to work like a mag drill. I needed to drill many rows of 5/8” holes in my previous fab table top which was non-magnetic stainless steel (for dog pins and for clamping holes). I posted this modified drill press here:
