Peavey Mart Closing

Stopped in today. Parking lot was quite full. Inside the store was pretty tame. Some items were on sale. 10%, 20%, 25%, and 30% off on select merch. Picked-up a can of Fluid Film for what was already a low price plus 10%. Grabbed a few rolls of clear plastic tubing - 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" with 10% off. Walked through the majority of the isles and that's all I could find worth finding.

Seen several people walk out the store without purchasing anything.

Would have liked to find some of those kits of screws with washers, nuts, etc. but didn't see any. Not a lot of smaller hardware left.

That will likely be the last time I walk through a Peavey Mart.

Yeah, I stopped in my usual one yesterday....spent $150 and cleared out a ton of their loose bolt selection to stock my stuff back up where I could, but things were already getting bare.

For the record. My wife works for a major Canadian buying group that has stores across Canada. Peavy Mart was from the Western part of Canada and wanted to expand and they approached TSC, and in the process TSC started to slide, why put more money into something you are going to sell. Peavy Mart now takes over TSC but was not prepared to hand the stocking of all of the stores that they purchased. Inventory warehouse management system add 17% burden to the items you sell in your store. As time went on Peavy Mart stopped paying their suppliers, like Linde Gas, who stopped supplying gas cylinders. No Stock.

Since I am in Grimsby I talked to Jake at Linde Gas in Stoney Creek and they would do a direct swap of the bottles no charge and only charge for the gas. He stated that the Bottle Swap used at TSC and Peavy Mart was there to accommodate the hobby community as having a bottle contract lease is very expensive. Linde was hoping that once Peavy Mart closes and their obligation to contract is finished that they could offer the same service to the hobbyist. Still waiting on that one. Since TSC sold the stores and did not have them acquired by Peavy Mart there is a chance in TSC moving back in. The buying Group that my wife works for did an evaluation on picking up the stores but the numbers did not provide a viable model and they passed. There is demand for this type of store, we will have to see where the dust settles.

I watched a YouTube video "Why Target Failed In Canada " We all know stocking was pathetic, certainly no revelation in that. He talked about the inventory control and purchasing using SAP (?) There was a lot more to that then I ever realized.

That's encouraging to hear about the bottles being supported. I have a couple TSC/Peavey bottles, and went that route because of the weekend availability for swaps. My Argon is near full, but Mig about 1/4, so I'll cross that bridge shortly I guess.

Just a reminder that PeaveyMart is NOT selling online. There is a site peaveymartca.com that is advertised on FB that is fraudulent. It looks real, but isn't.

That fraudulent site mimics what is done with JoAnn stores in US. You order, they take payment (charge shows as from Hong Kong), send you a tracking # (from Hong Kong), and nothing shows up eventhough eventually marked as delivered. A friend got caught in that. Money returned by Mastercard after proof of trying to cancel etc. but still a trying time for a while. No way of knowing who is really running the fraud.

Walmart site (their own site, not a spoof!) got me with that scam last year. Got the money back, but no more ordering anything thru Walmart’s site.

like Amazon and BestBuy, they host affiliate stuff as well. I only buy if shipping from Walmart. Anything else is open to interpretation.
