If you get hard up, let me know. I'd give pretty good odds that I have what you need. I usually buy fasteners by the box. Sometimes it's cheaper to get 100 than 8. When it gets within 1/2 the cost, I buy in bulk. Just my way of doing things.
 
Stopped at Air Liquide in Cambridge this afternoon to ask about bottles...they said as long as they aren't stamped on the neck with Praxair or similar that they'd take them in for bottle swaps in the exact same way as Peavey Mart was doing. Checked my 3 bottles, none of them have brand stamps on the neck...so I think I'm in luck!

They also do have the typical small sized owner tanks available for purchase, cheaper than Peavey Mart ever was for them too ($300ish for the larger size)...and first purchase comes full too, which Peavey Mart was on top of the bottle cost (so a new Q tank there was usually $400ish + $100ish).

So in that sense, I probably won't return my fuller bottles, will just wait until they're used up and do exchange at Air Liquide. I'm sure worst worst case that Linde/Praxair will deal with them if for whatever reason Air Liquide changed their mind.

I didn't have a measuring tape to check, but sure looked the same size as my Q tank (I guess they have different names for their sizes?) but I said 80cf and he said yup. Guy was really nice and not sleazy sales either, so seemed legit and I've had amazing service/fair prices as a walk in DIY guy at this location in the past. They definitely won't do bigger than that though, I've never heard of any larger size tanks being not lease.
 
It's best to check your requlator fittings. Various companies use different fitting for acetylene. I have couple of adapters in my toolbox from years ago. Even Air Liquide uses different fittings for their purchased and leased tanks. My wife bought a Smith Handi-heet sliversmithing torch still new in the package off an elderly rockhound. The regulator only had the bottle gauge, not the setting gauge. I said no problem, I have spare rebuilt LA brand regulator, might even have a adapter for B-tank. When I took it in as my adapter for another brand, he pointed out my spare was for Air Liquide lease tanks. So $30 for another B-tank adapter. She knew how to use a Smith torch so nothing else would do. I use small industrial size purchased Air Liquide bottles, there is no problem with dates as they just get exchanged.

I don't have acetylene...my rig is oxy-propane.
 
Be careful air Liquide doesn't exchange you a bottle that says air Liquide on it, then the next time you come in they tell you that you need a contact or they are taking their bottle back.

Seems crazy they would be willing to do it otherwise, with all the people they have paying for contracts.....
 
I frequently visited (and liked) the Milton TSC, but it closed long ago. The Home Hardware in Burlington is like a lot of that chain with mostly household stuff like Carppy Tire - but the Home Hardware in Waterdown (Weeks) is almost a replacement for TSC (guess being a franchise, it depends on the owner)
 
My son was given a large almost empty Linde bottle. When he moved out, he left the now empty bottle behind. I took it to the one of the local welding stores who dealt with Linde hoping I could exchange it for a industrial small bottle with Tri-mix. Tri-mix is used with SS on a MIG. They looked up the number and it was a missing lease. Not much of surprise. They agreed to take it. I least I got it out of the backyard.

For welding SS, I ended up with a TIG/stick welder.

Looks like my favourite Bowmanville store is on the list, but they spared the Peterborough and Lindsay one. For now. Hoping they continue offering gas bottle exchange, or else I need to find a new supplier which sucks. I hate to see any store go out of business, but the Bowmanville store was quite possibly the worst stocked and staffed retail store I've ever been in, in my life. When it first opened as a tractor supply co it was ok, but since the Peavey buyout (long before the rebrand) it was a rapid and steady decline. The PTBO one wasn't a whole lot better, but at least it was a bit better.
 
Its not just the exchange, it also bottle brand. In town here, Barry Hamel handles Air Liquide and Chem-Weld handles Linde. KMS here fills, but only fills. I bought my argon bottle off of them when I bought a spool gun for my MIG.

I'm losing handy stores, a industrial supply/bolt store and a couple of retail steel suppliers. There might still be one old fashioned hardware store in BC in Prince George .
 
You guys in other provinces are lucky. In MB biggest tank you can own is a B/40 cubic foot or an Albee tank which is about 80.
At least our Peavy is still open for now

Agree with you, and grumbling here, I’d rather own a 80 or 125., like other provinces can. No good reason here in MB to be limited in size other than collusion.

ya I have account at Innovaire in Brandon for a acet B and oxy. I’m in the process of switching my Albee argon and mig to oxy/acetylene Albees to bring the fill cost down. Their from Air Liquide
 
Didn’t know there’s an Air Liquide in Brandon. Did a little look see just for giggles- found there’s also a Messer. Ooops, that’s Brandon Mississippi..
