That is absolutely awesome!
Welcome to the Colchester club.
Glad someone from here was able to buy it. Well done.

It's like a sleeping bag; ain't no way it's going to fit back in the wrappingCongrats. Are you going to wrap it back up for the drive home?
Exactly what I was thinking about doing, 800 rpm is a bit limiting.Attaboy. It’s the mate to mine. Mine was new in 72.
Nice lathe to run. I took the 575V motor off and converted to 208 with a VFD so now have as much rpm as the 1600 model
Going back tomorrow morning to break it down into manageable sized pieces so will have some better pics to post.
I am now the proud new owner of a Colchester Bantam, 11" x 20" or there abouts.
Got her home in many pieces, it will have to sit untouched for a while as I have to finish a bunch of other projects first.
6 chucks altogether, a couple I never seen before.
Popped the top off and gears look very nice, they mesh and spin well.
Curious on this as wellCare to ballpark us on what you paid? Its ok if 'you dont kiss and tell'.![]()
I didn't know that, thanksI’m sure the OP knows this, but in case… many of the parts are interchangeable between this generation of Bantam and a Chipmaster.
Congrats! One of my late mentors had a Bantam bought new just like this one. Many of the jigs and first bits of the Gunston artificial knee joints were machined on it.
I offered him $700 thinking I was lowballing a bit, he said "Oh no, that's too much, I'll take $600"Care to ballpark us on what you paid? Its ok if 'you dont kiss and tell'.![]()
See pic below. That motor is pretty stout looking! What are the specs on it?
