Mystery lathe, for real

YOU SUCK!

Looks like a Mark 1 Bantam but I'm certainly not an expert:

Apparently some of these lathes were fitted with a two speed motor to give a top speed of 1600 RPM. Since yours was used in a 600V environment, I would doubt you have feature. OTOH, I see a switch attached to the electrical box on the tailstock end. Is that Forward-Reverse, High-Low Speed or something else?

(Why didn't _I_ drive up there yesterday?!?)

Going back tomorrow morning to break it down into manageable sized pieces so will have some better pics to post.

Don't take the head off Skippy. Better to deal with whatever it weighs than go crazy trying to get it back the way it was.

Got her home in many pieces, it will have to sit untouched for a while as I have to finish a bunch of other projects first.
6 chucks altogether, a couple I never seen before.
Popped the top off and gears look very nice, they mesh and spin well.

I’m sure the OP knows this, but in case… many of the parts are interchangeable between this generation of Bantam and a Chipmaster.

Congrats! One of my late mentors had a Bantam bought new just like this one. Many of the jigs and first bits of the Gunston artificial knee joints were machined on it.

I didn't know that, thanks
Care to ballpark us on what you paid? Its ok if 'you dont kiss and tell'. ;)
I offered him $700 thinking I was lowballing a bit, he said "Oh no, that's too much, I'll take $600"
Me say, "OK man, you drive a hard bargain, $600 it is"
That motor is pretty stout looking! What are the specs on it?
