  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Mill arrived

Is your dro glass scales or magnetic, BTW, right on,
I have the cheaper glass scales, for my capabilities they are fine, I think the whole setup cost me under $500 off Ebay with shipping.

I added some pictures of the steel spacer I fitted between the column and head assembly, the rolling base I welded up from steel rectangular tube, castors and leveling feet, and the DRO setup.

If there is anything you need more detail on just ask,

cheers
Jim

That's great Canuck750, I never thought to add a riser when I owned one of those machines. When I bought my 3/4 Bridgeport clone I ended up making a mold and casting one for it from ductile iron.
GREAT PICTURES, it's good to close ups as to where things can be placed, ie, dro scales and so on, it's kinda like cheating.....

So here in lies a problem, is the casting on your machine the same under your scale? It appears your scale mounts are fairly far back, any thoughts.

Cheers..

I think the castings are the same, I remember there were challenges with making the brackets for the scales and pickups. The column itself is tapered on my machine and the vertical scale brackets were a pain.

I actually just found the same mill different name on it with pics of standoffs and how it was rigged. This is all pretty exciting stuff, 😉 can't wait till the snotty weather to start flying, the shop is a calling.

You’re going to enjoy it!
I can wait for snotty weather, just started building a new house, pouring a basement next week and I need at least 8 weeks of decent weather, fingers crossed for an Indian summer.
I too built my own house, timing is a big part of getting it tight before the weather hits
