That is basically the concept of removing the deck from the running gear but I wouldn't go to the expense of the hyd hoist. Just a simple roll off flat to the ground and roll back on over a live roll. The deck could be winched on and off with the same winch, just snatch-block a grip point at the bask of the frame to roll off and hook direct to front of deck to roll back on.
A double reduction hand winch would have a small amount of physical effort to run but the savings in manufature cost would be immense over the gear-hyd option shown.
 
I dont know what bumper pull car haulers (8 x 18 deck, 10000 lb axles) are selling for nowadays but I bought mine brand new in 06' for $1500 and cant envision it costing more than a grand to throw together a live-roll & winch system....so even with a "todays" price it would be miniscule compared to 16000 of the trailer used in the thread I'm betting.
 
Comparing this rental trailer to my 16 foot car hauler.
Steel deck vs wood deck
Steel fenders vs aluminum.
12000 lb capacity vs 7000 lb
4000 lb vs 1700 lb curb weight
Torsion axles on both sides vs solid axles crossing underneath (allows the deck to sit on the ground)
You definitely get more trailer. Not sure about more for your money.
It is a slick system a probably worth it for a contractor, maybe not for a occasional weekend guy.
Worth it for me for 130 bucks a day for the weekend for sure
 
@Doggggboy What's the ETA on the mill?
It has arrived in one piece. Well, actually many pieces but no more than it left in, whew.
Used the skidsteer to pull it off the trailer with no problem. Now that it is on the floor I have to figure out where it is going to live in the shop.
Then I have to figure out how to put the pieces back on and turn the head around the right way.
Then put some oil in it and try to fire it up.
Then I can start ordering tooling and find a vise.
Then I can make an ashtray and convince my wife that is why I bought it:)
Just kidding, she said she doesn't care why I bought it as long as I'm happy.

Just picture a mill sliding gracefully down a gently inclined checker plate ramp with a chain around it's ankles being given a "come hither" look by a nervous man piloting a skidsteer.
Easy peasy. Took less than 3 minutes.
Expensive or not, these level load trailers make things easy.
 
Glad it went well. If it wasn't a 9 hour drive I'd come over and help set it up.

You should DM John Conroy. I wasn't there when it was loaded but to unload it, we just pulled it off with a skidsteer and a chain. It was a drop deck trailer so there was no slope.
 
First, be sure to use the load limiter. It's no secret that overloading is one of the most common causes of overturning, breaking of ropes/cables, breakage of hooks, and cracking in the metal structures of hoisting machines. And this device automatically turns off the mechanism for lifting or launching the crane boom in case of exceeding the permissible weight of the load specified in the datasheet.
