I need some fresh eyes to look at my lifting set-up. Safe or Not?

After fallowing this thread I can sure see a "job opportunity" for someone younger and more mobile than I am....I would fire up the welder and build a bunch of car hauler trailer frames and install "roll-off" decks to them. A live roll affair at the back of the trailer frame similar to the ones (but much lighter) we used in heavy haul drilling rig days and a double reduction boat winch at the front of it and you could safely load anything up to 5000 lb safely.

Great idea! get De-tour, OLN or one the other networks to do a show on it call it "Machine Haulers"
Todays episode we haul a Bridgeport mill from London to its new home in Joe's basement in Calgary.

Looks like progress is being made.

I picked up the trailer from the rental place yesterday and delivered it to the neighbour. It is a neat design with a ramp and roller on each corner and a hydraulic ram in the front. The only problem is that it is super heavy. 16 feet and 4000lbs. Les was having trouble with his truck overheating pushing the wind yesterday. Should be an interesting drive home with another 3500 lbs on it. He should be near or at John's place now doing the load out. If you happen to pass a mill on a trailer on the side of the highway between St Albert and Regina, you'll know the trip didn't go as planned.

All will go well with the wind behind him, think positive!

My wife used to be VP of risk management at a federal crown. The "hope for the best but plan for the worst" mentality rubs off after while.
I'm not ordering tooling or a vise until it's sitting on the shop floor

Nicely tied down and protected.

What is this style of low utility trailer called? They must have a design reference other than manufacturers trade name?
They are a variation of a drop deck trailer used for loading larger equipment i think.
I've only ever heard them called level loaders. Not sure why this brand is called AirTow as everything is hydraulic, not pneumatic.

Yeah that trailer made loading stress free. We rolled it up to the tiny ramp of the trailer and removed the skates and sucked it on with a come along. It slid onto the steel deck surface easily. No drama whatsoever. She's tied down and wrapped up like a Christmas present. Les is on his way to Red Deer then Calgary then to Regina. I hope his little Avalanche is not overwhelmed by the weight.

It sounds like an idea.
Hmm got a picture I don’t quite follow. ?

Drop deck trailers are a great idea, but... they are very heavy for their weight capacity, AND they are pricey too...

I think they are still well worth it!
