I think the biggest advantage of #3 is accuracy. It’s easy enough to advance the spindle by the required number of teeth. Not as fast as on a Hendey though.

You have to wonder what other gems of knowledge are buried in that manual.
Funny they didn't mention the method @thestelster has described.
The method @Darren described is similar but WAAAAY easier than the indexed plate method they described.
You three guys are all amazing.
The method I described is limited to only 1/4 (or 3/4) threads that you might have in your gear box, so not as versatile.
