I sent a question as to if it is there. If so I might buy it..... if it is not already sold to a guy with 5 or 6 tailstocks - LOL

That's crazy how lathes and tail stocks get seperated! When I got my Boxford it was missing the TS and I had to get one out of England

Yep makes you want to watch the side of the road.
I bought a Harrison for the copy device from modern tools back in the 90’s it lost the tailstock in transit so we made a adapter to use a monarch tailstock We used that to make the rollers for English wheels.

Confirmed by seller this morning - NO TAILSTOCK

Going to have to write the ol' Standard modern and see what one costs - given all these lathes missing them they must be still in production - LOL

I'll be curious what you hear back about cost. Unless you want the look & feel of the original part, maybe another option is buy a new/used 'offshore' TS. Depending on the lathe way dimensions, maybe all of the conversion parameters could be confined to milling a new base sub plate to adapt? Or if you're real lucky & the footprint cooperates, adapting the existing one. The lateral the in/out adjustability is already there. Height wise you would have to mill accurately but its not an onerous job. You'd have to size it to close to your lathe center obviously but there are so many offshore lathes to choose from.

I've toyed with doing something similar for making a lever action TS so I could have my stock one in case the idea / implementation was a fail.

@PeterT : tis a good idea/suggestion. I am not at this time heck bent on getting another lathe - if this one had everything and was fully good to go it would have been a steal of I an deal and I could work on cleaning things up. The worst part is I would have to buy it sight unseen - sorta auction style - and hope for the best. With out a tailstock....to much risk for me and I guess there is the "do I need another project that serves no purpose at this time" - not really - got a few of them on the go already - LOL

I wrote Standard Modern and it got kicked back to me on some security thing. Will try again now that the internet is better at the spot we anchored.

You can sometimes get tailstocks at auctions... no lathe....

You can also see whatever anything from China fits - expect to deal from $50 at auction to $200+ from China.

As for modern expect more - maybe around $500 for brand new one if they have them?

Still a good deal if all else is working. I would buy it.

No matter which tailstock you buy, from SM, offshore or auction, it will still have to be fitted to your lathe - unless you don't want it aligned.

That being said, I've never found a properly aligned tailstock that I've tested - well except my 12X37, which I aligned when I bought it - it was about .006 towards the operator, and about .002 high. Actually it is time to check it again!

Amazing that guys set tool height by their tailstock dead center, and it is a bunch of thou high/low. Sigh.

Yeah I used to set the tool height by tailstock but for about a year now I have gages for both my lathes and use that - easier to do as well and quicker.
