A friend of mine is fighting a battle right now with the safety know it all's after somebody in their company lost a partial thumb using a hand drill last year. It's now 100% mandatory gloves at all times, especially when drilling or you're walked off site and suspended. It's becoming a complete shitshow of lunacy trying to prevent every injury possible. I don't need to tell you guys how bad of an idea that is. He's losing his mind trying to explain why this is a terrible idea to these young safety "officers" that have never ran tools in their life.

This seems to be a trend. I think the last time I was at the Centre Block site, they'd implemented a 'gloves all the time' policy.

I did a shutdown at Cominco Trail. The world's largest lead smelter. We were suited up completely. If our weekly blood test came back high , as we were employed by the contractor, we were laid off. If cigarettes were found in our cars in the company parking lot, we were fired. It paid for my machine tools.
In the 90's my boilermaker friend went there for 2 days to make opening cuts in the shell under the bottom of the furnace so brickies could get in and replace the refractory.
When they pulled the plate off this white dust fell on them.
Thallium that precipitated between the refractory and the shell. He went on to Edmonton to a refinery job then got super sick. Shitting blood. He survived. His partner died

I’m sitting back watching the next generation sitting there day after day blasting the ears through the Ear bud’s, headsets or although it’s slowed down a lot cars blaring the music. I use Ear Buds but hate the volume levels especially that “ Subscribe bell “ 2 or 3 times the usual audible level.

If I were to lose a thumb I'd be happy it was a partial thumb. :p

Sorry, always have to be the smart ass.

The Sullivan mine had a problem with thallium, I think that what was. It's radioactive , but Red Dog mine in Alaska doesn't have that issue. That's the ore they are now using. But working on an older section we had to do a weekly piss tests to check.

My awol package finally showed up New Year’s Eve, a pair of carbide tooth blades for the saw, a 1” endmill with 5/8” weldon shank for my small portable mill, and a 1/4” wide, 5” diameter milling cutter for some future projects. Can’t argue with the price I paid, got everything from a surplus place, for less than what the two bandsaw blades would cost.
