I'd say this has reached the end of its useful life.

Come now, it's not metal on metal yet...... Can sure tell you are not a farmer.... That'll get you through two more plantings and one harvest. 🙄 😉
Oh, and,....... It's a Volkswagen so it may not have been useful from the start.... (We have one too, so I am allowed to jest a little)😛
All kidding aside, it's looking like you are going to have a new car soon. Looks great.

Had to laugh. That is soooo true...... Farmers keep my pocket money from disappearing for buying machines and tools though so I can't really complain.

My buddy's dad had a brake shop. Lady came in "brakes are not working, it's making a bad sound.

They put it on the hoist remove the wheel and the rotor is now two pieces metal on metal for long enough to grind through the rotor.

Oh. Yeah. Definitely will be doing that.
I'm trying to decide if I want to weld a plate over the hole I made.
definitely weld a plate in there - need to get in some metal working. Also, its part of the subframe, I'd want to be sure that I didn't weaken it and make it want to start a crack from there.

Much better luck with the driver's side control arm. Had it swapped out in 20 minutes. Oddly it was in much better condition.
Started removing the transmission.
Driver side axle came out easily.
Wish I could get the passenger side axle out of the hub though. Kroil hasn't done anything, repeated whacks with a 4lb sledge hammer haven't budged it.

Memories...
I was changing rear gear ratio so pulling axles.
I didn't realize I had twisted the axle splines enough that they didn't want to slide out with the typical few whacks with the slide hammer, in fact I had been slamming that slide hammer for more than an hour as hard as I could. The axle had moved about an inch but was firmly stuck and my arm/shoulder were just aching beyond tolerable levels I was at my wits' end. Along down the sidewalk comes this huge native guy, I'm guessing 6-4 and 275 lbs, he asks me what I'm doing and I explain. He asks me do you want me to take a couple of swings? Oh please do. 2 or 3 slides and pop out she comes. Made my day.

See, there actually are a few advantages to being big. Small cars and availability of clothing are not among them. After a while you also get tired of changing light bulbs for everyone.

After a bit of a slog the transmission is out. The trick to easy removal is the passenger side output flange has to come out or it hangs up on the bell housing .
I definitely have to get the passenger side axle out as the inner CV joint fell apart, scattering balls all over the floor. 🙁

Tomorrow I'll pull the pressure plate and the flywheel and assess the situation.
