2 hp knee mill price

Looking at a milling machine located in Ontario, with price of the machine and shipping I’ll be close to 6 grand. Looks like a decent machine but it’s a Bridgeport look alike. It does look taken care of. I’m looking at close to 2 g shipping costs . There’s rarely ever one for sale in the area. Is this out to lunch or are people actually paying this for older used mills .

Thanks

What voltage is the motor? It looks like a 550v.

I wonder if someone in that area would check it out for you.
It’s a 240 3 phase, which is a plus for me. Amazon VFD and I’m good to go.

It is a private sale , I was thinking it was a company .
Id hate to burden somebody and not actually pull the trigger on this because yes it is steep. But being a private sale looks like I’m down to about 5500 lol .

You should go look at this ASAP.
575V but you can do a heck of a lot of motor swap for the difference in price between the one you're looking at.
I think David might mean the XLO mill I just pointed out, for $625.

Broadly, I would say you can get a full-sized mill (Bridgeport etc.) in Ontario for $3000 at any time.
$2000 is not at all uncommon, but could be harder to land with time differences, if you're in a hurry, etc.
Sub $1500 usually goes quickly, unless it's pretty busted, or really remote.
Condition is a much bigger deal when you're paying thousands to move it regardless (I'd imagine).

If only I was in Ontario, instead I’m in the middle of Newfoundland at a mine in the middle of nowhere . Thank you though. What a price! Even if it had something wrong with it

Ok but I'm confused as the mill in your original post is also in Ontario.
Sorry for the confusion.

Reason being, lathes and mills are few and far between here, so I’ve been keeping an eye in Ontario because of the selection. And was wondering if this was something others have done for the price it costs. I have a couple quotes now, around 2 grand shipping.

Wow for 2k shipping you can just go for a road trip.

I feel your pain. I’m in the Halifax area and the market is probably as barren as where you are except I’m not in the middle of nowhere though I might as well be. There is nowhere near the market like you see in Ontario or out west

There is hope though……for the patient and lucky.

I got my first lathe because the company I was working for went out of business, it wasn’t advertised. That was about 10 years ago.

About a year ago someone from NB posted here asking for advice on selling a lathe and I was able to make a deal, again unadvertised. ‘Way more machine tools come up in NB than NS, we can’t even find a rusty band saw at less than retail around here and they sell every day for $50 in BC.

My mill came from a one man shop about an hour away out in the sticks. I got lucky because I had done my homework and was ready to pounce. I found it on Kijiji.

All I can tell you is to watch the market and be ready to buy (research done) when something pops up. You might generate leads by talking to machine shops, even if it’s out of town. A shop manager I dealt with in Toronto would have given me a mill they took out of service if he knew I was looking for one, missed it by that much!

Good luck and if something comes up near me I’d be happy to look at it for you if need be. You could actually pick it up with a U-Drive and a trailer!;)

D

Try Manitoulin Transport. Ship it to New Glasgow to the Armour depot. Do a road trip and the ferry to pick it up. There are also enough Armour trucks running to Sydney and to Newfoundland it may not be much more to get it on the Rock. The hard part in shipping will be crating it for the trip. Manitoulin has many yards in and around the GTA. They are great to deal with.
