  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. Follow rest

In preparation for an upcoming project of profiling a long tube, I thought I might practice a bit with a follow rest. Material is just hot rolled steel, about 1.25" diameter. I have tried with HSS and carbide, new insert, different insert, and sharpened the HSS more than once. I am still...

    Photos not opening

I got this screen with a few of @phaxtris images yesterday in this thread and figured it was his photo format. But then I responded to the thread with a photo and today, my own image gives me the same error. I went and looked at some other threads, older photos and they open normally. Anyone...

    Tig torch adapter?

I bought a Tig torch, 17F, from Amazon, thinking I could just install it on my welding cable. I used to have a flex head and really liked the options it allowed. The torch that came on my welder is a 26. The fitting in the new torch is much smaller and I am wondering if anyone has adapted a #17...

    Welding challenge

So, I had a small (should have been small) welding project come up. TIG weld an aluminum duct up for the oil cooler in my RV4. For size, the cooler surface is about 6" x 6" and the height will be about 3". After several days of practice, and some premature attempts at the actual project, I have...

    Another threading question

I know single point threading is discussed many times, on many websites, including this one, but I came up across something today that I am confused on. Perhaps I just have not read enough. I have a scope for which Vortex does not make a sunshade, which I want. I thought it would be good...

    Parts washer solvent

Hey guys I picked up a small parts washer. Up till now in my life, I have used a small bucket with some leftover paint thinner in it. Always wanted an actual metal washer bin. But now wondering what the best solvent is for it. Varsol of course comes to mind first, then just paint thinner, (I...

    Miller welder capacitor

Hey guys I was helping a friend with his Miler 150 welder today. Found the terminal burnt off of a capacitor. Wondering if any of you have purchased miller parts on line. The capacitor is a 140 000 uf 35vdc cap. Yep, no typo 140K ...I have never seen a cap that large! I am finding prices from...

    Glass bead blasting

I need to clean (remove paint) from some of the aircraft parts. It was suggested that I use glass beads in lieu of sand. I was considering walnut shells but no local suppliers have them anymore. (PA does but an 8 hour drive to the closest one) I am wondering if my sandblast equipment will do...

    Tool bit question

Hello all I was given a bunch of machinist tools from an estate. In the lot are these "tool bits"? Anyone know what they would be? One has wax on it like a cemented carbide lathe tool comes with. The other does not look used but probably had the wax too. There is a bend to them. The shank...

    Mill for parts auction

With discussions here about needing parts for mills, there is a mill for auction in Owen Sound. Sounds like a lot of wear so maybe the common needed parts are already too worn. Just an FYI...
