Little wall-eyed, aren't they?I'm kinda hoping this isn't somehow helpful. But like this?

Oh crikey, trust you to find the drawing helpful. 🙄 😉 😛Little wall-eyed, aren't they?
I am not smart enough for this book 😛
Disagree. Modeling a known item is like an exercise in a course you take.No way. Not worth the time and effort.
Conversely, a "reason" to get better at modelling.

Always doing one's own design rarely takes one off the path of what they know.
I learned how to use AlibreCAD by taking the Gingery lathe 2d drawings and making parametric 3d ones.I knew when I wrote that that others would disagree. It's only my opinion as a fellow what can't seem to get past SusCAD.
OK, go for it. Then maybe you can help me. Cuz I seem to be too old to learn.
Not even a debate IMO. Of course you should. You will improve your CAD skills even if its a known design entity. From here the options & utlity are endless. Make variants, different shapes different dimensions, even applying color or texture with drag & drop FX (depending on the modeller). Or maybe you want to make a custom case or pen stand, you already have a pen model to see what it looks like as an assembly. Some of these variants may be for personal documentation or mechanical curiosity in terms of construction. But you could also incorporate them into a sales environment if that is of any benefit. Sometimes people do this photo apps just dragging in a color overlay, but of course you are locked into the original photograph. You cant dynamically orientate it to another angle, or slice a cross section, or generate an exploded view or...Today's debate, should I 3D model the designs!
Could you elaborate on this concept for me. How does one sign up ?For those occasions where I have to be on the couch idling
Mostly when the kids are having some TV time and don't want to be alone in the room, but it's not exactly engaging fare for me. So like 30 min a day hahCould you elaborate on this concept for me. How does one sign up ?
Ugh, not sure if it would be worth having kids for. There's always a price.Mostly when the kids are having some TV time and don't want to be alone in the room, but it's not exactly engaging fare for me. So like 30 min a day hah

Thanks for compliment. Take comfort in knowing at some point I had zero CAD knowledge, just manual drafting experience. Learning takes time & effort like anything new and everyone has their own progress curve. But actually software learning resources are much better these days with forums, online courses, YouTube (depending on source) & AI. If you have any CAD experience, even 2D, its useful backgrounding. What I see quite often is trying to directly force that prior methodology onto the new app as opossed to 'how does the new app do what I used to' usually leading to frustration. A car is not a backhoe type of thing. I'm venturing into Arduino/ESP type controllers part time & its that same initial overwhelming feeling. The junior high robot kids would run circles around me. But... gotta start somewhere, so just keep plodding one step at a time. Its different when you do something for fun vs because you have to.Says the guy who whips out 3D CAD models in his sleep
