Tips/Techniques
Parts on the right get reused. Logic boards, power supply, heat bed, motors, extruder. Parts on the left don’t. Frames, cables, mounting plastic stuff. And I have a huge box of more parts.

Progress. Really nice parts and clear instructions as usual. Prusa is a first class outfit.

Yea they are based in Prague, CZ. And make most of their stuff there. They 3D print their own parts to go into their printers, build their own boards, make filament, sourcing basics from China I’m sure. They’re having a Black Friday with free shipping which is usually a lot coming from Europe. They have some sort of presence in the us now. Driven by tariffs ? .

Anyway this will be a prusa core one model - one gen behind current but I’ll get the parts upgrade to make it current. I bought it direct. I guess it would be kind of like a Bambu x1c but without a filament switcher.

Hopefully when you are done it will look something like this? Four print heads with automatic changing.

Is that your machine John? A Voron? Mine will have an enclosure but multiple tool heads is another option. I’m not sure I’m doing that but my filament switcher will work so that’s what I’ll do for now.

Heat bed and wiring, core XY mechanicals. It’s getting heavier. Print head is next. I’m done 5/9 major sections.

and I posted an improvement request to the Prusa slicer github. Automatic recycling symbol placement. Check it out.. and up vote!

Auto label prints with recycle symbol

One problem with trying to recycle failed prints is reliably identifying what kind of filament a part is made of. Without a label recyclers frequently are unable to attempt recycling and the print ends up in the landfill. As an enhanced new feature the slicer could automatically, and by default, apply a recycling label to the bottom of the part to be printed using the type of filament assigned to print that part. PLA, PETG, TPU, ASA, etc. Some additional implementation ideas: ....

Could someone please upvote this feature on github if you think it is a good idea? Most features requests only get 1 upvote so three or four would bring it up much higher.

The idea is to put the right recycling label on every print by default. With labeling then there is a supply of known materials which could then be recycled. Without labeling it's just trash.

@Janger AFAIK neither PETG nor PLA are accepted in blue box recycling programs in Canada because in the case of PLA it is not a true plastic. PETG has glycol which contaminates true PET.

Nope. A friend of mine built it up from scratch. It has three 0.4mm heads and one 0.2mm for more detail but he says it doesn't print that as well. He's not sure why.
