  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Tech-night

An idea I'd like to introduce is something called "tech-night". This is an evening or weekend day that some more experienced fellow would volunteer to "teach" or "assist" any of the other forum members, in some specific area of their own expertise or something of universal interest.

We started.this in a forum dedicated to fans of a particular old, orphaned car model. It was amazing how many like minded guys there were out there with that car and with certain areas of expertise. The sharing of experience, expertise, facilities and equipment made this hobby activity both more efficient & less expensive, and it created a family of comrades that also began to socialize and enjoy their unique hobby with like minded people.

I have some resources for this kind of thing here in Edmonton if there is interest, but it's also a good idea for you Calgary guys.

I'd certainly be up for this here in Edmonton, @Brian G

Not sure if I'd be much use on the teaching side, but I'm an excellent learner! :P

We should make one of these a meetup to start.

Or that blacksmithing thing we chatted about at the last meetup. Who had the details for that?
