  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Really ?

Then, as mentioned earlier, there are warranty jobs, and then there are warranty jobs... Recent examples I can recall off the top were Toyota and their issue with Tundra engine failures, Toyota also, in replacing a run of frames in Tacomas, that were made of the wrong alloy, and dissolved apparently not much differently than if they were made of sugar... I found out that there is actually a whole industry in providing weld-in patch panels for Toyota and Jeep Frames...
The good folks at VW, some years back, decided that making the insulation on their wiring from a Vegetable Oil based plastic was wise... As if the rodents of the world would not do what they did... Or GM's answer to complaints from the folks in Cold Climates, that their new Duramax Diesels would not warm up when idling, so they sagely decided to tweak the computer to partially engage the Allison Transmission, frying the clutches therein... The Cold Lake GM Dealer shop looked like an Allison Transmission Graveyard, they were lined up around the walls...

Hey @Gordie, sorry for poking slow fun at you.

You quoted @slow-poke but then you didn't comment. We are all wondering what it is you wanted to say or ask......

We (and especially me) can be quite childish at times. Maybe doesn't make sense to everyone, but I consider maturing to be a false goal. In my ripe old age, I want to be as childish as I possibly can.

So what is it you wanted to say or ask?

I"m going to guess that he was wondering about books in a library? Where are they located?

Could be. @slow-poke is in Ottawa so I assume the library is there.

But my wife takes books out at the library all the time without actually going there. She borrows a digital version on-line. It's kinda cool. She uses a book sized kindle to read them.

There are 3 copies in our library. I reserved one, we have too many books.

I don't believe this quote is from me (even though it appears that way)

I'm guessing that quote must be coming from someone else. I certainly don't have 3 copies (I do have one now). We have a smallish library nothing like the one we visited in Coimbra where they allow the bats to stay, curious and want to know why they let the bats live in the library?

Books... I like Books...

There are a lot of sites out there of various reliability and legality levels, depending on what you are looking for. If you want OLD books, search for "Out Of Copyright Books, and follow through...

I have found that Library Genesis, is a pretty good source for newer stuff to read. The various LibGen sites give you access to a LOT of more or less up to date fiction, as well as a HUGE catalog of learned works and papers in various fields. May be worth a look, if you want to read a book without having to own it first! #% or so years back, the Inter-Library Loans system, was how I screened out the books that were maybe in my interest, from those that were not. I was able to borrow books from such Libraries as Sandia National Laboratories, and NASA, the irony being that I was able to sign out books a month at a time, that were normally marked as Reference Material, and not able to be be signed out of the home Library.

Not near the same as having a physical book in hand, but when you are looking at books in the hundreds to thousands range in price, you want to have a look at what the book offers up front, to see if it is well spent, or wasted!
