Onan Generators

When I was working, I would often think, I can’t believe I’m being paid for this, it’s so interesting and just plain fun. Other than a short spell for a crown corporation most of the people I worked with were performers and great to work with. When I didn’t like the “chemistry” of a place I just skedaddled out of there, life is too short for that nonsense. Some environments are definitely toxic, however in most cases you have a choice.
Yeah, I always had a choice. The saying that surrounded that choice was "Press hard, you are making seven copies", referring to the Release Request form that the Forces used.

Liked the work, liked at least many of the co-workers, thought a fair few of my bosses would better serve humanity if we parted them out and used their organs in someone more worthy...

The bosses I had that were really competent and capable leaders, were a pleasure to work for and as often as not, simply highlighted just how poor the bad ones were. One of the sure things in the CF, was that if you were not moved along, the person getting under your skin, would be, eventually, so your contact times were always going to be limited, at least to an extent.

So how did you end up as the point man on that assignment?

The classic line-up of volunteers and everyone took a step back but you?

Or was it your responsibility to handle PR?

You are a sharp cookie.

I was away on business when the meeting to decide how to handle it was held. Apparently, the decision to nominate me was unanimous.......

eing interviewed by CBC Marketplace as a corporate villain was a definite one time event I'd like to forget. Even if I never do it again, it will be waaaay too soon......
CBC---Communist Broadcast Corp. The wife was unviewed at a firearms rally before C68 became law ...They edited that interview to be exactly opposite of what she actually said when it was broadcast....Fcn liars, the works of them

The CBC used to be fantastic back in the 70’s-80’s. Interesting discussions about world events. I can’t listen to the modern rendition, completely unrecogniable.

Geez, man! That job usually goes to the guy that was not at the meeting to defend himself from it! 😛

That's exactly what happened.

But since you guys insist on picking at this open sore of mine, I'll add another chapter to the story.

I am pretty sure I would have been picked even if I would have been at the meeting to defend myself. I tried to call the whole thing off as a dumb idea to even agree to do it. As I put it to our PR guy, "You can't win a pissing contest with a skunk". He laughed about that but then he looked at me and said this:

Nobody expects you to win. Your job is to minimize the losses. We have reviewed what happens when companies agree to be interviewed vs what happens when they don't. When they don't, they get slaughtered. But when they do, they still lose, but it is possible to minimize those losses. That is your job. Besides, I talked to our CEO and we all agreed that you were best equipped to do this. We will all be behind you and we will do our best to help. ( Ya right... Sure you will.... You are not the ones getting hung out to dry on national TV! )

CBC also went after Bell telephone that day. They didn't show up and got slaughtered. Lots of people all across Canada saw that show. Those I talked to who knew me or recognized me all told me that I came across pretty well. Perhaps they compared me to Bell. I don't know.

All I really know is that I hated almost every second of it. In fact, the only real fun I had, I got shit for. The journalist kept asking me the same question over and over and over. I gave the same answer over and over and over. I think she expected me to say something dumb at least once. Didn't happen. On the last try the tv camera was to our side and only saw my left side. When she asked me again, I winked at her with my right eye as I repeated my response. She totally completely lost it. Of course her hissy fit didn't make the cut. But she didn't ask that question again. In fact, the whole thing changed into more of a regular interview after that. Our PR guy had to give me shit for that stunt cuz it could have blown up in my face, but secretly I think he really liked it.
