A lathe needs many, many accessories to be convenient to use, tool rest, tool box is necessary, the number of ----, of course, the more the better.

This is a knife rest. I think it's Swiss

A Swiss made Dickson clone (or shall I say 'improved'?) - nice! These are the most sturdy quick change tool holders that I have ever seen. I have a "Rapide" Dickson clone made out of heat treated 4140 that I *adore*... So making boxes (or tool holders as we call them here) is in my future.

The centre to centre distance between the vees on mine is 400mm. What size is yours?

My V distance is 99.70mm, do you need to check your size ---- mm? Inches?

So I was very surprised why there was such an irregular number. I thought 100.00mm or 10in was a reasonable design, but 99.70 confused me.

Are you sure the exact size is 100.00mm?

Can it be accurately measured again to determine the size?

Because my friend is also a tool holder of this model, our measurement results are not 100.00 integer value!!

Mine is a Rapide model. I measured the width across 2 1/2" dowel pins - they are +/- .0005. After subtracting the pin width it was 100.00 mm. But now that you have mentioned it, I will recheck it again to be 100% sure.

99.70mm divided by 25.4 mm/ inch = 3.92519 inches. It does not make sense in imperial either. Did you guys measure the tool holder or the tool post?

On the Dickson, the easiest measure is on a tool holder because you can lay a dowel into the veeway. And measure across the dowels.

I've never seen a Reiden lathe before, it looks fantastic. I like the compound is fitted into t-slots in the cross slide. That feature could be very handy.

Of particular interest is the fact that they used an adjustable plain bearing for the main spindle bearing. Seems that was the way precision lathes were made during that era in Switzerland.

I had a Emco Super 11 that I sold on, that had a "Rapide Originale" marked tool post. Was a nice looking and working post! Found very little about finding parts or extra holders, but...when you are in a machine shop, you can make about anything, right?

The post, may be harder than the tool holders.

A couple dowel pins, firmly clamped in the grooves of the tool holder, should give you a reliable center to center distance.

Measurements off the tool post will take some finesse, as you need to be able to measure off the same height, of a sloped surface, over the span of the two corners. Not so easy.

My view is, that .3mm will show, if you look hard, but will probably work just fine, as you will be secured against two of the four available faces. Would it be better to use all four, hell yeah. Will it work on two, yup!

I think the answer, per the posts above, is to measure carefully, and make what you need!

The Dickson tool post on my Colchester Master 2500 has a V spacing of 82 mm. The lager Dickson tool post on my CMT Ursus 250 has a V spacing of 100 mm.
