JCDammeyer's 42 projects

You are gunna need more than a few cups of the black thick stuff.....that's still not right. Maybe just stick to the number itself - ie 0.000035.

Might be easier in this case to go metric. Ie a micron. Or... How about tiny invisible stuff that nobody cares about. LOL!
OK. Deal. The amount is 4.545454545454545e-9 furlongs or 4.545454545454545e-8 chains.

OK. Some sewer pipe news.

I think it's going to be the fault of @David. Last spring when I was wanting to plant some peas and beans and protect them from critters @David gave me some steel posts. I planted them and ran chicken wire around them and indeed the large critters (rabbits, deer, raccoons) were not able to eat the result. OTOH, the bugs crippled the beans by eating most of the leaves. We scored 3 bean pods, about 30 pea pods and possibly a leaky sewer.

Note the steel post by the concrete block raised bed. Turns out it maybe directly over the sewer pipe. That close to the blocks I knew I'd miss the perimeter drain tile and roof drain pipes. But didn't think, based on 90 degrees to the house that the sewer pipe was there. Should be 6" over.

However the digging has brought to light that the pipe changes angle and looks like it may be in line with the steel post. Or where it was. And it turns out it was deep enough that it would be touching the top of the pipe.

Tomorrow I'll do some more digging.... literally....

It's clear that the perimeter drain and roof drain pipes are not in line with the concrete block planter. The metal stake OTOH, was almost touching the concrete blocks. So I may well have hit the sewer pipe which is below these pipes which will make access to even inspect it a bear. Especially now that rainy season is here.

So far I've missed out on the shoveling 😉
Ah the sabotage by giving me steel posts!!! All to slow down my LinuxCNC progress!!!

Now we all know why you are so fast at doing projects. You have the ability to foresee the future. Laughing maniacally you saw me in your dreams flattening the sewer pipe as I pounding on the steel post.

And now you'll have Probe Basic up and running while I'm still digging holes.
So sad.
I'll be weeks trying to figure out how to access the sewer pipe under the white perimeter/roof drain pipes.😱

Well now I have the ability to watch things float by. I started digging on the other side of the curb first removing the 8"-10" of flower bed soil. The stuff below that wasn't super hard and it was pretty easy to push the square spade down and along the direction of the pipe to clear out the dirt.

Suddenly as I scraped along the top of the pipe this was included in the dirt picked up 12-16" from the inside edge of the curb. Which is almost exactly where the camera said there was an issue.

After that it was hand digging and breaking off crumbly pieces from the edge of the pipe. Cleaned out as best as I could and then went in and flushed a clean toilet to wash it down to see what it looked like. This is with the water still flowing. the shape of the pipe around the hole is not round. Obviously at some point in time this pipe had been crushed and cracked. Likely the plumber's clean out too exacerbated the problem shattering more of the pipe.

At this point any disturbance puts more dirt into the pipe so I have a plastic bag over it held down with a large rock. The frustrating part is that there's the perimeter drain pipe and roof drain pipe to the right of this still underground and above the sewer pipe. Then the planter. Then poured concrete entrance walkway.

And did I or did I not also hit the pipe with the @DavidR8 magic post?

Don't really know what sort of coupling to buy to fix this.
