I just scored a bridgeport head, and right angle attachment accessories

I've done a lot of plunge roughing and always wished for a power feed on the knee. I could not imagine having a mill without a quill.
I miss the quill sometimes for just drilling bolt holes. Gets kind of sketchy using the knee power feed to drill a smaller hole. Or even plunging with a smaller end mill.

ya, the lack of feel would be a puckering factor with smaller tools for sure.
Funny enough, it wasn't, from my experience.

Our mills (Varnamo U-3 machines, https://www.lathes.co.uk/varnamo-millers/page5.html) had built-in power feeds on all three axiis, with DRO scales on them as well, but no DRO on the quill. So, anything that required more precision than punching a set of through holes, got done using the X, Y, and Z axiis. <shrug> Ya learn to run what you have!

Remember that box, here are the two main items in the box, in addition to the 3 piece right angle head and support bracket.. and in addition to the head, which is a Nantong Bridgeport Clone with an M head. Top speed is ~10K

Spindle is smooth and tight and motor is smooth. I think it will be good for my purposes, but I may just sell it because today I secured a Jackson No. 2 vertical Milling Machine project.

Hopefully the bearings and balancing are up to your proposed speed.

That's the speed the head was designed for so I'd hope so. But then again, communist chinese product from the 1970s.

That said, this is getting a full tear down and potential rebuild, and it will only ever see sporadic use as a secondary hobby milling machine. I have a better drill for high speed teenie tiny holes so even less demand for the highest speed on this head.
