I live in the Moncton area of New Brunswick and discovered my love for machining about 10 years ago when i built my own gingery lathe. in the meantime, i've upgraded to an Emco V10 and love it. I joined this forum because one of these days i'd love to get a hold of one of those little mini shapers. i was thinking of making my own following the gingery books but I just don't have the time. anyways, thank you for letting me join.

welcome from Toronto.

Congrats on your building a gingery lathe.

Welcome to this group of hackers, craftsmen and chip producers.

Post any questions, I was at a fellow CHMW’s place last night for a little turning job.

I went thru (4) years of machining, (10) years of process design work and (20) years of project management with application engineering.
My wife and I were out to St. Andrew’s in 2025 where we discovered the resident deer.
Played a round of golf at the Algonquin with a couple guys from Moncton.

Welcome from the other side of the country.
If you're into tangents you'll fit in well. lol
Enjoy the ride.

Welcome from the Outaouais, I just got here myself. I see those small shapers pop-up here and there, aren't they great. They are more fun to watch than a campfire!

It's the sound more than the way it looks.

Swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss, swish kiss,.....

Totally mesmerisizing.

Welcome from the Cariboo mountains. Probably not what you're interested in exactly but Blondihacks on you tube is in the process of building hand powered shaper which came as a casting kit from Martin Models in Oregon. It might be an interesting project to follow.

Welcome from Victoria. I too made the Gingery lathe but never the gears for it. Instead an electronic leadscrew kit.
Really would still like to build the shaper.

Welcome from just south of you, near HRM.

The only shaper I’ve seen in these parts was in the miners museum in Glace Bay. Maybe a bit larger than you have in mind, lol!

You’ve fallen in with a good group around here, enjoy!

D 😎

Welcome, from just outside Ottawa city limits.

I built the Gingery charcoal furnace from book 1, 13 years ago. I enjoyed making molds and casting metal so much, I just kept building my foundry instead of the machines.

I still sometimes think about starting the lathe project though.
