  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Recently joined as a new member and delighted to find there is a website for Canadian hobby metalworkers. I'm a retired engineer living in Harrison Hot Springs BC who has been fascinated by CNC since I acquired my first NC mill in 1974. (It had punched 8 bit paper tape controls). With more time now that I'm retired, I am hoping to get my machining skills up to apprentice level by building a Quorn Tool and Cutter grinder from a kit. I have written a series of articles on this build and the first is appearing in the current Home Shop Machinist magazine. I have also been exceedingly fortunate to have made the acquaintance of a couple of professional machinists who have been very generous with their time, advice and access to machine tools I don't have.
 
Hi, and welcome to the forum. Glad to see another one from the fringe of the lower mainland BC. Would love to see that article if you have a link. and any pictures you want to share. I'm just starting on this journey so am eager to see what people have done.
 
And hello from Abbotsford! I'm also a retired engineer with a full machine shop. I attempted a Quorn about 20 years ago. Might resurrect that some day when the hunnydo list shrinks!
