Ham Steak. $1.88 in 2019 $5.99 this past week

It dawned on me this morning that rural people have another advantage, in food trading.
Inevitably I grow more food than we need, so we give food to those who need it. They in turn give us what they can, in food or labour.
Yesterday we recieved 40 packages containing 2 frozen Atlantic lobsters each. I can see that we will be feasting for a while.

I’m mildly curious why you have frozen meat from 2019?
I'm feeling attacked.
When my nephew and I cleaned out my parent's house in 2012 we found frozen fruit and produce in the freezer dated from 1985.
When I was cleaning up one of my freezers, (we have 6) I consolidated the frozen tomato sauce I make every year from the garden tomatoes and I found some from 2015. I found more than 260 bags of sauce. We won't be planting many tomatoes this year.
And yes, it's still good.

I was removing my old kitchen floor yesterday and found this. Any guess on the year?

Freezers are a great tool, and as long as meat is shrink wrapped so no air gets to it, it is going to keep. I wonder how come people will buy dried beef to gnaw on, and throw out freezer burned (dried) hamburger.

I don’t know. In 1963 my father was the principal if a brand-new elementary school, and he earned the princely sum of $1000 a month.
