I am wondering what the general consensus is on fogging engines. We bought a new pontoon boat last year and it came with a 60 hp Mercury 4 stroke. The winter storage suggestion, in addition to water stuff, is the changing of the oil and fogging of cylinders. I buy into the changing oil, even though I certainly don't do that on every 4 stroke engine I have. I also only put about 10 hours on it in a year, but condensation is condensation. But I wonder about the benefits vs MIFs (Maintenance induced faults) of fogging engines. The coils are attached to the plugs on this engine (or close) and so manipulating of the wires, potential for cross threading plugs, etc.
I have a friend who is great with engines (rebuilt his Lycoming O-320 1000 hours ago- still going great) and he does not fog in the fall. We don't fly here in the winter so storing a plane is akin to storing a boat. I trust him and his perspective as he has rebuilt many many engines and should know the ins and outs of engines, good and bad for them.
But, I still thought I would see if there is a consensus among this group of knowledgeable people.
What say yee?
