Fly Reels

Just finished another pair of reels - one RHW and one LHW. These are Perfect style Sun-Planet wind with spring detent clickers.





The reel bodies are fairly simple since all the action takes place on the winding plate.



The winding plate central shaft rotates within the outer shaft which screws into the spool. The driven gear assembly incorporates 3 spring plungers which ride against the circular pattern of divots in the reel body. This provides just enough force to prevent the spool from free wheeling.



The knob can spin freely so it will remain at the bottom when line is pulled out of the reel.

Awesome work. Not that I could likely ever produce such fine work but I'd love to learn that skill if for nothing else than to teach my son how craftsmanship and quality can come together and produce useful artifacts of art. Thanks for sharing and inspiring.
