End of our backyard chicken experiment.

Hmmm, roast turkey. Mashed spuds, carrots and peas turkey gravy poured all over. Excellent meal.

Season limit is only two birds. And they are not that easy to bag. Those buggers survive on fear genetics. They can see an eye blink behind camo screening from 500 yards away. No curiosity or disinterest in a turkey brain. Just fear. They instantly turn and run the other way. Not so easy to kill either.

But ya, a good meal when cooked the right way.

One of our local egg farmers had his flock annihilated by a bear last summer. He managed to lock the bear in the coup until the wildlife guys showed up. They chatted about what to do and as the bear was not threatening people and was just doing what bears do it would just be released.

I haven't heard if he's restarted the farm or not.

Yuck, turkey sucks azz. I can't choke those dry suckers down no matter how hard I try.

Gimme a nice fatty goose any day

People are quite surprised to hear there there are enough black bears immediately around Toronto now to be a major nuisance to our local honey producers.

meanwhile in Toronto proper keeping chickens and bees is mostly illegal... thanks NIMBYs, that they use bird flu as an excuse while simultaneously being covid deniers is a hoot.

LOL! Yep!

A problem is just an opportunity that has not been fully understood yet! :P

A fair few years ago, I met a little old lady on Vancouver Island, who had a tarp spread out in the trunk of her car, into which she was shoveling horse poo, from the manure pile. She said she had almost a half acre in garden.
When I asked if she had any trouble with the deer, she looked at me and said "Not since I got the crossbow!"

Turns out, God provides! LOL! Pretty close to the whole year's vegetables, as WELL as the meat for the table! From just one small garden!

It's funny that people can be educated and at the same time not be smart.
I had a family of In-Laws (now EX!) that personified that!

One ranted at me because she had a "University Education!", and I didn't, so why would my opinion carry any weight, and wasn't over impressed, when I asked her how, with all that education, she ended up so f***ing stupid!
Probably the FUNNIEST part of that was that her daughter was laughing so hard it looked like it hurt! LOL!

Funny enough, I watched her father (my Father in law, at the time) choking off a grin, as he decided it was better to not enter the room, at that time.

For a brief moment there I thought you were talking about my Sister. Then you mentioned she had a Daughter and mine only has boys. We no longer talk....I "corrupted" her oldest, and he now want's to pursue the trades (automotive tech). She (grown ass woman) broke down and had a crying fit one time, because he was going to end up being just a dumb tradesman without a degree. All while sitting next to me.....Her brother....The dumb tradesman......I couldn't be more proud of him. He's a smart kid that will do well with whatever he does.

LOL! I took my niece (laughing girl, above) Hunting, and we harvested a pretty nice Mulie Doe! Free range, organic, meat!

I never went through the "post secondary" BS, but refuse to put up with the concept that this means I was stupider than those that did!

I have more education than I like to admit. My best friend never finished grade school. Neither did my grandfather. They are the two smartest people I have ever known.

People confuse education, with intelligence! Often!

When faced with the question "What do you know, you don't even have a degree?" You soon lose your respect for what passes as "higher education".

Been there, done that, too many times.
