End of our backyard chicken experiment.

Hmmm, roast turkey. Mashed spuds, carrots and peas turkey gravy poured all over. Excellent meal.

Season limit is only two birds. And they are not that easy to bag. Those buggers survive on fear genetics. They can see an eye blink behind camo screening from 500 yards away. No curiosity or disinterest in a turkey brain. Just fear. They instantly turn and run the other way. Not so easy to kill either.

But ya, a good meal when cooked the right way.

One of our local egg farmers had his flock annihilated by a bear last summer. He managed to lock the bear in the coup until the wildlife guys showed up. They chatted about what to do and as the bear was not threatening people and was just doing what bears do it would just be released.

I haven't heard if he's restarted the farm or not.

Yuck, turkey sucks azz. I can't choke those dry suckers down no matter how hard I try.

Gimme a nice fatty goose any day

People are quite surprised to hear there there are enough black bears immediately around Toronto now to be a major nuisance to our local honey producers.

meanwhile in Toronto proper keeping chickens and bees is mostly illegal... thanks NIMBYs, that they use bird flu as an excuse while simultaneously being covid deniers is a hoot.
