Deckel FP3 LG milling machine, $5000, Toronto, ON

Hi Guys,
As promised, it's been home since 2 weeks so here is some pics of it in my garage.

I had it delivered from Toronto to Quebec city area by truck for less than the fuel cost it would have cost me to pick it up myself.
Then we loaded it on a towing flatbed platform for the last 5miles and we were able to slide it effortlessly in it's final spot with no trouble at all.
It is a heavy machine, probably 5200-5300lbs with the massive HSS tubing base.

I'm pretty pleased so far, just need to find time to fiddle with it a bit, power it up and find tooling which I already started to do.
Will need to replace the OE motor (440v 3ph) with a 220v 3ph unit and add a working DRO as the Heidenhain TNC113 was disconnected in the past and it is missing 2 of the 3 scales. Anyway I'll get a modern DRO with the new functions (bolt holes patterns and such).

Already have the CNC control that controls the feed motor (so I can control each axis separately, one at a time) but if needed I can add separate motors to each axis on the same control to get ful CNC.

Right now, with a DRO it would be similar to an Aktiv model (not a true CNC) but probably enough for me.

I will probably be in touch with other Deckel owner members here from time to time to exchange tips.

If the OE motor is a nine wire you should be able to wire for 220. If so youlhave some fuses to change and relay heaters but that'll be much quicker and cheaper probably.

When I got my Fritz Werner I got a used step up transformer, cost me 700 at the time. There is a slight power loss from 50 to 60 cycles euro power to NA grid.

This Deckel looks like a very specialized mill, are there specific jobs its used for?

@wmetfab The Deckel FP series is just as versatile as a Bridgeport, but everything is done differently than you would do it on a BP. It can hold up to 5000 lbs on the table, and it is more rigid than a BP.

@wmetfab - For comparison, the standard BP table is rated for 750 pounds. That's a crap load but still fly crap compared to the Deckel!

I think of a Deckel FP3L as a small horizontal boring machine that also has a vertical milling head. Ya, ya, I know it’s not as rigid or accurate and the travelling body will tend to wear tipping backwards over time, but the analogy works for me.

Now if a DeVlieg 2B had wandered into my shop, I wouldn’t have minded something even better than a Deckel (but unfortunately a DeVlieg is just too complicated for me and seems too much machine just to play with)
