Product Canadian VFD Supplier

Product
Both units have been very reliable and are still in use years later.

This is what I was about to ask. I love "cheap" but I am not thrilled with "died an early death and no support".
I'd like to hear from others who have bought direct from Aliexpress or some other Chinese supplier?

I don't mind waiting, I have many other projects to keep me busy, and don't even have the proper 3 phase motor yet.

("I got no motor and it's breakin' my heart, but I got a VFD and that's a start" ...Apologies to Sir Paul.)

I’ve bought heaps of stuff from Aliexpress. Notably all of the motion control parts for my CNC router; steppers, power supplies spindle and VFD. No issues with anything from a reliability standpoint.

I think I've only had one situation where I didn't get the part and for some reason instead of the $3.86 refund ended with only $0.86. I haven't been able to fix that.

For stuff that doesn't arrive eventually I get my money back. My guess is with small packages the address on the label is damaged and unreadable because so many of the packages are so small.

I've bought my AC Servo stuff from China but that was direct to the manufacturer Bergerda rather than through a reseller. Bergerda has complained that many of the low price discount resellers sell the product and then send them to the factory for service which isn't fair in their opinion.

I've sent an email to Donald Chen at Bergerda. First to ask him the price for ES230-2S1.5G which is a 1.5kW VFD with 220VAC input and second to point out his chart on the web site shows ES220 part numbers but the description is all for the ES230.

I could ping him on WhatsApp too.
If those are a good price I could see one on my lathe :)

I bought a few cheap Amazon VFDs. I have one as backup but so far the two in operation have been flawless. I'd do it again.
While I like to support Canadian business's with my purchases when I can, I often find the other uber-cheap stuff is what I end up doing. And I don't feel bad doing it because the Canadian business I am supporting by doing so is MY business. :)

I would much rather buy direct than through a reseller. I think a slightly larger model would be what I end up needing - rated 2HP plus perhaps a bit of overhead wiggle room. But don't want to pull the trigger until I have a motor in hand.

I have an automation direct GS-1 on my lathe. 1HP, 3 phase, 220VAC. Totally happy with it but I rarely touch the speed knob. Mostly just flip belts. Occasionally set the speed knob. Thing is, with the ELS I can thread at 500RPM for example so I don't need to slow it down so I can flip the half nut. So unless the cutting speed or parting speed needs to be really slow I tend not to change the speed much.

The original question was to not buy from the USA if possible. I suspect the GS-1 or GS-2 are made in China but re-labelled for the US company. When Donald gets back to me with a price I'll let you know.

Of the stuff you've bought from Bergurda, how are his prices and quality compared to competitors?
I bought a stepper driver from leadshine I believe. Even though I have tinitus in my ears the whine from that driver was awful. I talked to Donald and the next time I ordered I included a couple of stepper drivers. His claim that not all stepper drivers are just one manufacturer relabled was born out. Internally it was dramatically different. And no whine.

And just got another email from Donald Chen at Bergerda. He said still some mistakes on the model name so he sent me an updated catalog. No idea what the mistakes are but this is the same kind of support I've had when I asked questions. The last time I worked commercially with Servo Motors was Electrocraft in the USA.

Even had a visit to their plant. At the time I was writing software for my hardware that controlled a DC Servo to turn a ball screw that pushed on a cylinder pump. There were two cylinders and pressure transducers and valves. The goal was to push fluid up to 10,000 PSI through drilling core samples and when one of the 500CC cylinders was almost empty the second one pressurized and tracked the pressure of the first and the core. When the first was empty the valves switched to the other cylinder which then continued to press fluid through the core. The idea to have a minimal pressure bump during transition.

The company sold a few, one to a Norwegian oil companies IIRC.

After that it was hobby servos like the UHI series and GECKO drives.

I put a Bergerda servo and driver on the mill to replace the DC spindle motor. I can second John's experience. High quality product and excellent service. Donald gave me his WhatsApp number and told me to ping him if I ever had questions or issues. I did once and he replied within minutes.

They are all made in China, no matter what they claim, and Vevor is one of the cheapest and easiest to set up.
Sort of like autodark helmets, tear down a Miller and see the printed circuit board numbers and mfg, and then tear down a Princess auto helmet...oops same components but 10% of the price.
Although now China has 100% tariffs on us, we'll see what that does to the word inexpensive.

If I buy Chinese I will probably get one with double the output of what the motor is rated. The VFD will be used in a hostile environment (belt grinder) so I really don't want to spend $400 on a TECO and then subject it to that kind of abuse. I only need it to output three phase to run the motor.
Mike, that is a good idea in every case with vfds.

When I bought mine from ISS, he asked what size motor I had on the Crawford. He said let's double it, so I got the one rated for 10hp.
It works beauty.
I've got it mounted in the clean side (cleaner than the other side) of the workshop.
I still routinely give it a blast of shop air to blow the particulate that settles in there though. With the power off of course lol

His website doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence… do you have a way to contact him?
