My CX701 is slightly different in that it uses studs in all the chucks and face plate. All you have to do then is put the washers and nuts on the back of the flange.

That's how the 10x22 and 10x30 machines are too.

And 13x 24 machine as well.

All cheap machines have this.

I was a bit shocked when the modern machine I got recently showed with a threaded spindle. Threaded spindle with safety stops seems like a better solution than the flange.

Ya, you have lived a charmed life.

I've never owned or used one either. But I have watched other guys swap chucks and even helped hold the chuck while someone else undid and did the fasteners. My hands don't even fit in there.... I recall thinking "Holy Crap! And here I thought I had patience! That poor fellow has no idea what a charmed life the other half of us lives.... So ya, count your blessings.

That said, to a man, they all loved their lathes! I guess it's all about what you are used to! Maybe they are the ones who live charmed lives and you and I are crazy!

Hmm, crazy, very possible we would not have advanced as to where we are with out the crazy. The first to sharpen a stick was probably called crazy. However, the first to just stand in front of a charging mammoth was called crazy, later called "flat". The pictures of some of the first?lathes I have seen, did not have chucks, just centres or a face plate. I bet there was some crazy there when someone showed a chuck.
What's LO style. (Crazy?)
