I thought he was dreaming at that price but it's showing pending. In their defence it does sound like nice machine.

The gold coloured spindle he is using as a tool grinder, is that something that is available for purchase or is it a piece he has repurposed to do the job?
Beautiful restoration.

Judging by the vintage of the motor driving it I'd say it's an aftermarket spindle.

Seems a lot, rather, for a jumped up (official) clone of a South Bend!

Though, to be fair, at least Boxford evolved and adapted, where South Bend didn't!

I'd love to have a quality 10x22 lathe, IMO it is the perfect size for a home hobby guy

IF it was closer
and
IF I had not recently bought a Myford
and
IF I never owned a lathe - so that I needed all those included extras

Then the price is good - it would already be in my possession & at close to his asking price.

IF
As a friend of mine would say - "If your aunt had balls, she'd be your uncle".

Lolz!

Well, I am glade someone said it. I really detest the “It’s over priced” or “what’s it worth” side of forums.
I think you are correct in your statement. Getting the lathe is one thing, and then being beaten up afterwards to tool it up so it meets even a hombiest’s requirements is another.
I have not seen this machine in person but from the photos I don’t think he’s far off and the AUD becomes more desirable by the day.
I am in the same boat where I purchased a super 7 not too long ago but if I hadn’t………

I find that so often people try to ask more than an item is worth, and having informed buyers is important ergo threads picking apart over priced ads are of great value to the marketplace.

IMO this is a good lathe but it is way over priced, just like a certain Chipmaster lathe here in Ontario.

As evidence, I can point to a similar Boxford AUD lathe that has been for sale at a dealer in PQ for well over a year. It started well over 5K and has now dropped to $3600 USD and still no takers. The market never lies.

I think out of control inflation has more to do with the lack of a buyer. You are right, It is a free market. If it doesn’t sell than the price will eventually go down. I have looked at two Boxfords for sale in person over the years on the plus side of 3k and they were worn out junk with no tooling and definitely didn’t have new spindle bearings.
I have always made my own decisions on what things are worth to me. I’m old. Time is worth more to me than money in some cases than chasing estate sales for the ultimate deal.
Everyone tells me Myford Super Sevens are grossly overpriced and I still love my machine and can probably sell it for more than I bought it for.
These comments are not meant to start an online spat, where I find these forums have serious value are educated opinions on different models, brands and actual capabilities of older machines.
But unfortunately I’m out of time now.
