Product Band file

Product
I had been thinking about the corded Wen, but now I'm just going to get a Dewalt battery compatible version. Only $84 vs $93 for the Wen and $255 for the Dewalt cordless (tool only). We'll see how it is, hopefully for my use case (infrequent) its good enough.

Boy I guess maybe I should try one someday. I have never thought they would be very useful in the shop but it clear by user comments many think they are worth their price. I figured there was nothing so fine in my shop that I couldn't get with an angle grinder or bench belt sander.
Kinda where I'm at. I've seen the PA pneumatic ones on sale, thought about it, then went, "Nahhhhh."

I can't comment on the knock offs, but I do like my Milwaukee belt sander that identifies as a band file. 😛 Combined with the 1/4" 90° diegrinder they make a pretty decent pair. Just incase you want to spend even more... if I can do it, you can too, we have great faith in you.😉

That is hard to resist. Great tool. If you are a DeWalt guy then it looks great. I like the Dewalt tools but - My preference for a band file is the smaller, lighter M12 and i think the reverse feature is a big plus. Here are my only V20 tools:

The die grinder was my first V20 because i liked its features over the M18. I included this pic because my V20 3” mini saw has a reverse feature. I often use that feature so I expect that the reverse feature on the M12 band file will be a valuable & useful feature.

PS: If you have M12 - then you might be interested in the battery I purchased today.

On special at Home Depot this month at $28.99 about 1/3 the regular price.

Looks like a drive to Home Depot is in the cards. I got into M12 tools a long time ago and learned that their early batteries were crap. But I loved the sml size format so much that I stuck with them. Eventually they fixed the battery problems. Now I truly love the M12 tools. But I could use a few more batteries.

I'm sorta locked into 3 ecosystems now. Makita 18, Dewalt 20, and Milwaukee 12. I suspect Milwaukee 20 might be in my future too but I am not jumping onto that train any time soon.

Looks like it was discounted for Prime week last November and again in June...

Even a low of 300 isn't exactly seductive. Half that would be getting there.

I got a smoking deal on a cordless snap on drill, found a cheap charger, and did some horse trading for a new battery.... if I was a smart man I'd either trade the lot or sell it all to stay with Milwaukee

Not that Milwaukee is best, just as everyone says on here once you get a couple tools and batteries you're kinda locked in that direction

But the snap on drill is pretty and compact so I'm on the fence, plus I don't have much invested

I kinda "get" the locked in mindset, and was like that with my makita tools for a long itme, but it's not against the law to buy tools of different brands, and have different chargers and batteries.....At last count I have Makita 18vlxt and 12v stick (not cxt), Milwaukee m18 and m12, Hitachi 12v. Sure, takes up a bit more room for another charger and battery storage, but it's not really a big hassle or inconvenience. One of the big benefits is that I can take advantage of deals in either brand when they come available, instead of just waiting on say a deal on a certain m18 tool, while watching deals on comparable lxt ones come and go etc. Milwaukee offer tools that makita don't, and visa versa. Personally I MUCH prefer Makita tools and batteries, but got into m18/m12 because of good deals and tools that Makita doesn't offer. M18 battery release buttons suck ass though......

@CWret black Friday sales before Thanksgiving might help? That's CDN pricing

No that's not a band filer, but they had another deal where you buy a battery and get a free tool, too
I have two of these, very handy, I use them all the time. Especially with roloc discs and sandpaper. I also put cut off wheels in them. I found them used thanks to a buddy as they are expensive new.

Here is a roloc adapter you can 3D print. I know the designer it works well. https://www.printables.com/model/169479-roloc-compatible-35mm-arbor-2-ish

There are people selling various battery plates to go from one 18V battery standard to another, comments around the web say they seem to work ok, but You can't charge the batteries though. They still seem pricey to me.

A cool 3DP project would be to design a series of parts to accept various batteries, to a universal plate, then another series of adapters to go from the universal plate to the various tools. Combine one of each side, wire it up, and you have your batteries to whatever tool. Any people interested in helping with this? I can start with a milwaukee M18 battery going to a universal plate. With a clever design maybe the same universal plate could be used on both sides... ?

For the m18 this would work. I think with Makita 18v as well. But DeWalt has an issue. The battery cut off circuit for DeWalt is in the handle of the tool. For Milwaukee and Makita they are in the battery. So if people are adapting from one to the other its safer to use m18 batteries then dewalt 20v. Friend of mine used to race the little kids jeeps and they used m18 but others tried dewalt batteries and they killed them in racing. I do have a ryobi to DeWalt battery adapter but it can damage the batteries, so I make sure not to go to far with it. I sadly killed a 6am m12 battery with a project that only connected to the +,- terminals.

A very cool project would be to make a universal battery adapter set.

I have the wen wired one with some extra belts. Looks really nice works well but I only just played with it a bit.

Yeah, I'll need to be careful with the little band file / sander that I ordered. I was aware that Dewalt put the cutoff for low voltage in the tool, so I just need to either stop before I get too low in voltage, or hope the cheap tool has low voltage cutoff. I'll find out soon enough, should be delivered tomorrow.
I think I'll test it with one of my oldest 1.5Ah batteries that is almost done its useful life anyway. I'll drain it on another tool until it stops, then try it in the band file.

$28 for a flashlight is hard to pass up

I have a Dewalt that looks very similar. If that is even half what my Dewalt is, you will be thrilled. If it's equal or better, you will LOVE IT!!! To put that in perspective, even my neat freak wife loves mine soooo much that it garnered an easy to grab easy to see spot in the garage! Normally NOTHING is allowed to be messy in there. I think her fear of snakes at night over powered her clutter phobia. Mine is brighter than a car headlamp and it adds a red light mode that won't ruin your eye's dark adaptation. The handle also pivots so it's easy to aim for shop or yard work or a long walk in the dark.

No, this one is smaller, but it's nice for wrenching on things. Battery makes it fairly bottom heavy and stable. I like my magnet lights don't get me wrong. At $98 I wasn't buying the flashlight, $28 is a deal

No local availability, and I'd really like to hold one before buying (Lowes had a DeWalt, but it has a larger form factor and too bulky for what I'm looking for).

The only potential downside for the M12 3/8" x 13" that I have seen in a couple of reviews is that the belt adjusting locking set screw threads into a plastic part, so two users managed to strip it the first time they tightened it (I have a feeling that they didn t follow the instructions to loosen the set screw, adjust the tracking with the Phillips flat head screw and then tighten the set screw – and probably gronked it). Most of the complaints on Amazon was that the reviewer didn't realize that it was a bare tool:
