With Dabbler's encouragement I've had a go at MIG aluminium without a spool gun - it generally works for me. When it does not I get a burn back into the tip which plugs it. If I don't notice then I get bird nest too!

Is there a polarity reversal required?

So does that mean my 4’ lead mastercraft fluxcore/mig can do aluminum? I mean mine has a burn in the gas feed line so I would need to replace it and add shielding gas but since flux core is reverse polarity anyway I’m pretty much a bottle and wire from testing this “impossibility”!?. Just like the inter web says I cannot use it (mastercraft 110v mig/fluxcore) with a generator but YES it can, I’ve done it....
