  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

A near miss and big consequences

Did you get the vaccine?
Good question John. We got our shingles vaccine at my sisters and friends urging who have gone through that. There is also a pneumonia vaccine which I got as I have had it a few times. They claim it covers viral and bacterial. I hope they are both effective. These things are helpful but we need reasonable expectations as effectiveness varies. As usual a requirement for perfection should not be an impediment to good - do what you can.

I did but it wasn't the Shingrix, it was the older style, Zostavax.
I understand it wasn't nearly as effective as Shingrix is and that they are recommending getting the Shingrix even if you had Zostavax previously.
Once this bout of torture clears up it sounds like getting the Shingrix shot about a year later is the way to go.
I'm on antivirals right now and hoping that does the trick quickly rather than slowly.
I am shocked at how fast it progressed. I had one itchy spot Wednesday and hundreds the next morning. Called the healthline and they recommended I see a Dr. within 4 hours. Mine was closed so I went to the Emergent Care Centre and showed my ass to everyone I could catch. Took 6 1/2 hours but close enough.
Mine is mostly itchy now but they say the pain can be 8 to 10 out of 10 for some people.

Near every one that’s had shingles recommends not getting it.
My old man got it a number of times, sometimes nearly couldn’t move for up to 2 weeks, a few years ago when Shingrix came out, decided best get with the program. So far, so good.

Yes, My wife says that once you are over that you have to wait a year before you can get the Shingrix because it takes a year to get fully over a shingles episode and for the immune system to recover before you hit it with a vaccine.

I've had both Zostavax and Shingrix. Linda just brings my vaccines home and stabs me in the dining room. Everyone should get the Shingrix vaccine even if they've had Zostavax.
Same with Pneumonia vaccines. And stay current with COVID. Get your Flu shot every year.

Although there is no definitive long term study there is something called Humeral Immunity which means if you have had lots of vaccines your body is in better shape to tackle something new that you haven't had, or there isn't a vaccine for.

Hope you recover quickly @Doggggboy and @Dabbler

Hey Buddy ! Glad to hear you caught this in time . :) I had a blockage in my right leg years ago that was painful as heck . 2" frilled out and stent implanted . Both legs feel like it's time for another drilling . :( OT , but will be seeing you soon .
