Once the CT scan was interpreted, my wife and I waited over 3 hours, and finding it would be a minimum of 3 hours more to see a cardiovascular specialist, I went home, and notified my GP.
My doctor returned my call at 10PM - He really does work that late regularly, but on a Friday long weekend - he's a saint! I found out why the hospital staff were apparently laissez-faire about my condition. While my situation has risks and is serious, taking Apixiban prevents the formation of new clots, and weakens the surfaces of clots. Blood thinners don't 'bust' clots, apparently, but gives the body time to deal with the clots and heal the damage caused by the restricted blood flow.
So no machining, gardening, cleaning, or anything requiring a force of more than a Kg, except for carefully negotiating stairs - for the next 6-8 weeks, at least. Sucks to not be able to do anything - but he said I had to treat this like a knee or hip replacement, I'm out of service until my cardiovascular system shows significant improvement.
So I'm safe, if I play nice, and am in life danger if I ignore the restrictions - seems simple to me.
